(Above is Raegan Alvaro)
I woke up quickly after Zeus disappeared in my dream, jumping nearly out of the seat and hitting the roof of the car.
"Alana, gods! What is it?" My mother exclaimed as she drove. I startled her as much as myself when I woke up suddenly.
Rubbing my eyes, I sighed, trying to steady my heartbeat, "Zeus thinks I'm the only one who can save the world, at present. Typhon has risen from Tartarus."
"Oh."
"Yeah. He didn't really give me much of a choice, but there's not much I can do about that. I guess I've got to get back to camp, unfortunately."
She shrugged, "I don't know, he didn't give you any sort of timeline, did he?"
"No, not really."
"Then I think you can afford one day at home before you run off again. After all, it is Christmas."
"Well I won't argue with that, but I don't know if I can afford to wait until Christmas Day."
.................
It snowed the next morning. I woke up to see snow falling outside my window, and a chill sneaking into the room. It was only the 18th of December, but it felt like a white Christmas, which was one thing that I'd never had before I moved here.
My mum made pancakes and bacon for breakfast and we ate together like a real family. As much as I did have the fate of the world on my shoulders at the moment, it was nice to be able to sit and eat breakfast with my mum in our house, even if it was temporary. I could only hope that one day all this chaos would calm down a bit, and we'd get to have a few more of these moments.
We read books and drank tea all morning as I tried to distract myself from the lingering knowledge of danger lurking near. I didn't work, of course, but I certainly didn't want to leave after I'd told my mother I'd stay for the day.
But around eleven o'clock, the house phone rang, and when I answered it, I found none other than Kaley Finch on the other end.
"Alana?"
"Kaley? What's going on? You sound... worried about something."
I could hear her sigh and could picture the wrinkle in her forehead that was probably forming right about now, "I am worried, Alana. I've had another vision, but this time not so far into the future, and that actually makes me more nervous."
"What was in the vision?"
"You were."
I sat down abruptly on the couch, "What? What was I doing?"
"Fighting for your life, it looked like. There was a huge monster and everything was on fire and the sky was full of lightning. You weren't much older than you are now, if at all."
The huge monster had to be Typhon. I guess this confirmed the dream I'd had yesterday.
"Kaley?"
"What? Do you know something?"
I winced at her eagerness, "Yes, well, of a sort. I had a dream yesterday in the car with my mum, Zeus came to me and told me that Typhon, father of all monsters, had escaped Tartarus, which you can google later. Daddy dearest says that I'm the only one on earth with enough power to stop this dude."
"Oh."
The same reaction my mother had. Awesome.
"Yeah, I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to do."
