Uberta sighed. The top half of Derek's small body was hidden under the bed skirts in the blue room in the guest wing. Her little adventurer was coming to the age of exploration. Last night she had found him in the china closet, and the night before in the laundry room. His little snores were muffled by the bed. She took him by the ankles and slid him out onto the plush rug. "Ah!" She jumped back, startled momentarily. Derek's head and shoulders were covered by a rhinoceros'. She laughed at herself. For Derek's fourth birthday Rogers had given him a set of dress up costumes, and Derek lived in them.

Uberta shook her head congenially with a smile to herself, pulling the rhinoceros head from it's place on her little treasure's shoulders. Scooping his limp sleeping body into her arms, Uberta snuggled Derek close to her heart as she stood. His head tucked into her neck, his legs on either side of her hips, she carried him through the castle corridors and into his nursery.
