Chapter 8: If I Ever Let You Down, I'm Sorry

((Sorry for the LONG wait))

I hesitated before speaking, a silence coming over us for a second. “Babe? Alexandria.” He urged into the phone. “Um, yeah, I’m here.”

“Is it really important because I have to go like right now? Can it wait?”

I sucked in a breath and nodded, “Yeah sure, please call me afterwards, ok?”

“Alright, love.”

He ended the call before me and I sat on my bed. Hugging my knees to my chest. What could I say to ease the pain?

“Ben I’m so sorry!”

“No, Aly! I can’t believe you’d do this to me! I thought you loved me! Don’t worry about seeing me in a few months, because I’m not coming back.”

“Ben..”

I gasped, “no.” Oh my gosh, what if that did happen? I shook my head to myself, praying he would forgive me. I bit my lip more and more scenarios going through my mind as I laid down on my bed. Sleep quickly taking me.

I awakened quickly, sitting up too quickly as I felt a bit dizzy. I looked over to my phone to find a few voice mails from Ben. Oh! I bit my lip as I listened to his voice mails, pondering what to say to him.

I sighed heavily and dialed his number.

“Aly, hey! What’s up, Love. I called several times so we could talk. What’s up?”

“Oh sorry I was asleep.” I bit my cheek hard, tears filling up in my eyes already.

“That’s fine, what is it?”

I sniffled, wiping my face. I didn’t know what to say.

“Aly? Are you ok? Is Hazel ok? What is it baby?”

“I.. I fucked up.”

“What do you mean, Love?” He whispered now, listening closely.

“I slept with Andy..”

There was a long silence between us until he sighed heavily into the phone. “Alexandria..” He spoke, “I’ll call you back later.” I shook my head but mumbled an ok and he ended the call. Tears ran down my cheeks, what could that mean?! What does that mean! Is he going to leave me?

I crumbled onto the floor into tears, holding my body together as a rocked back and forth. My heart tearing to shreds by the hour.

It wasn’t until Andy knocked that I wiped my face.

“Aly.. Hazel’s hungry again, well was.” He whispered, walking into the room. I was still on the floor, wiping at my face. “Did you tell him?” He asked, moving to sit next to me. I nodded, “where is she?”

“Laying on my bed asleep. I fed her the best I could.”

“You heated up the milk and things?” He nodded and I laid my head against his shoulder. “Thank you, Andy.” I whispered, closing my eyes. “What did he say?”

“Nothing, just hung up.” Andy wrapped an arm tight around me. “Well if anything happens, I’m always here for you.” I sniffled, snuggling into him. I know.  

A day passed and Ben called me back that next night. I hesitated answering it as a laid my clothes out for the next day. I was being interviewed for that job at the local bar&grill. I didn’t need any stress or anything to worry about but I answered it anyway. “Hello?”

“Alexandria, can we talk about what you did?” I nodded, sitting down, wrapping an arm around myself. “Sure.”

“I don’t like what you did… and I’m sure there’s an excuse but that doesn’t matter because baby I love you and if you loved Andy I’m sure you would have married him so, I forgive you, Love.” My eyes were wide and my heart raced. He forgave me. A tear slid down my face. “I’m so sorry, Ben. I love you so much.”

“I know you do babe, I wish I was there to hold you and Hazel both. I love you so much. Now, I have to go. Guys wanna hang out. I love you.. and please don’t do it again.” I wiped my face. “Of course, not.” I smiled softly. “Alright bye, Love.” The call ended then and I smiled brightly. Damn, I love my husband.

I finished getting out my clothes, just a nice shirt, jeans and flats. It didn’t need to be too dressy, just a waitress job.

I happily went downstairs then, taking Hazel with me. Andy had come in from a smoke outside and smiled slightly. “How are things?”

“Oh, great.” I smiled brightly, holding a tired Hazel close. “He forgave me.” I smiled, walking into the kitchen to make dinner and fix Hazel’s bottle. “That’s great.” Andy smiled and it looked sincere. “I’m glad I didn’t mess you guys up.” Andy whispered, walking into the living room. He turned the TV, flipping channels. I left that remark to hang in the air. It just felt weird, I mean Ben messed me and Andy up for the most part. I bit my lip feeling a little sorry for Andy. I made sandwiches for two and heated up Hazel’s bottle some and walked into the living room. I handed Andy his sandwich. “Thanks.” I smiled, he was so kind and al I’ve given him was hell. All these years. I sighed, taking a bite into my sandwich. “I’m so sorry, Andy.” He looked over to me, face full of food. “What for?” He asked, standing and walking into the kitchen. I hadn’t realized I forgot the drinks. He got a beer for himself and a soda for me. “For everything, I’ve been so wrong to you and you’ve just been as nice as ever.” Andy handed me my drink and sat back down. “I’m so sorry for cheating and doing this, you’ve been screwed over way too much and you’re a really good friend, I wouldn’t want to lose and I haven’t lost you surprisingly.” Andy nodded, “It’s alright, Aly.. things happen and this is just life. It’s how things go. You weren’t supposed to marry me, you were always meant for Ben. And I will always be your best friend. Don’t regret anything, ever.” Andy gave me a soft smile, before opening up his beer and taking a sip. “But if make you feel better I forgive you too.” I smiled brightly and Andy pulled me close for a hug. I hugged back tight but not too tight-Hazel was between us. “Thank you.”

“It’s no problem.”

I woke up early and took my car down to the Bar&Grill to the interview. I was so grateful and so happy, Ben had forgave me and that Andy was even more forgiving with all that’s happened to him and all I’ve put him through. I felt like it made our friendship stronger. I arrived a few minutes before my interview and was shoveled right into the manager’s office to begin the interview.

Throughout the interview, I shuffled some. I was very nervous but answered every question thoroughly and hadn’t lied about anything. It was over in about fifteen minutes and soon he was shaking my hand, saying I got the job. I smiled happily, my training would start on Monday. I also gave them my clothing sizes to be given a properly fitting uniform. “Thank you so much.” I said and left. Yes! Nothing could fuck up my day.

I hoped Andy had remembered to feed Hazel and did everything correctly. I didn’t doubt he would but I felt like something was going to go wrong. I parked and practically ran to the house. Unlocking the door to get in, “Andy?!” I yelled, closing the door behind me. “What!?What!? What!” Andy asked, sitting up from the couch. It looks like he had been taking a nap. Hazel lay on a blanket on the other couch. “Oh, sorry, I just felt like..” Just then I heard the shattering of glass and I screamed diving onto the floor. One of Andy’s windows had been smashed in and there was a loud banging at the door. I hurried over to Andy, moving to take Hazel into my arms. Andy moved to stand in front of us, shielding us with his body. The door flew open and a girl with deep black hair walked inside, holding a gun. She looked around and smirked when she saw us. “Finally.”
