Meeting Mother

I sat in the car, looking at these buildings, streets and shops that I passed by a million times just in this month. I paid the cab driver and told him to stop off on the corner of Angel Street. I hopped out and walked down one of the longest streets in Motiva town. You might be wondering why I didn't just ask to go down to my destination but the people on this road all know me. They know my face, the color scheme I wear on Wednesdays according how my week went. As I walked past the markets on Angel Street, my friend, Alexander popped out of nowhere .

"So Aury, going to visit your mom again?" he said.

"Well, what else do I do on a daily basis between the hours of 11 to 1 o'clock?" I shot him a glare.

"Uh, hmm, nothing else."

We walked all the way until Hope Wing Mental Institution. I turned around and Alexander put his arm on my shoulder.

"Tell Mrs. Karlel I said hi." I slowly pushed his muscular arm off of my shoulder.

"Will do. When I pass back I expect a fruit bowl," I gave a silly smile.

"Well, if mom lets me I'll try to do more." He smiled and passed his hand through his thick black hair and stared at me with those cold blue eyes that somehow gave me warmth.

"Later Alex," I waved and walked backwards, pushing the glass door behind me with my back.

I walked up to the security counter and stared the familiar bodyguard in the face.

"What do you want Miss Karlel?" he said not looking up from his laptop.

"Aren't we on a first name basis Clark?"

"No...We're not...Have a seat I'll call you when your mom is by the seat."

I sat there on my phone for a good hour until Clark called my name. I walked through multiple metal detectors and went through a whole bunch of security measures. When I finally sat down, I saw my mom with her long, tangled, black hair. Her red-velvet eyes seemed to glow when she saw me as they always did.

"Hi, mom," I beamed as I sat.

"Hi sweetie, we have something to talk about." She looked around as if she was scared someone was watching.

"OK, shoot."

"After today, you need to stop coming to see me."

"But.."

"Do you know you what you're named after?"

"Yes, the mysterious unicorn from the story you told me as a child."

"No. Auris is real. It's in that forest. They're looking for you and you're the only one to look for her."

"Look for....Auris?"

"Yes, child, I overheard some officials. You were chosen for the Entry Of The Forest."

"Like you?"

"Yes."

"Never come back here again," She was stern. She never used that tone with me.

"But I will never make it out of there," I almost leaped out of my chair.

"Yes, you will...I'm sorry for what I'm about to do?"

"W-Wha-"

"Security!! Get her away from me!"

The men in navy blue descended upon me and grabbed me out of my chair. I stared into my mother's face with disbelief and she only looked apologetic. They grabbed me and I fought and screamed. I appeared crazier than most of the people in here. I only remember being left outside with Clark looking utterly confused and flabbergasted.

I walked up to Alexander's fruit shop. I listened in before knocking on the door.

"-Need to get away from me!" a female voice shouted.

"Get back here." I heard a male voice this time, then sound like an object of porcelain being thrown and shattered. I opened the door, refusing to knock. I saw Alexander's mom, his dad and Alexander himself blocking his mother. They hadn't noticed me

"How could you!?" Alex's mother shouted at his father.

"I did what I had to."

"You gave that poor girl up to President Vaeko!"

Poor girl? Who are they taking about?

"Did you give up Auris?!" Alexander stepped forward to his father.

"Only to ensure that YOU didn't get in, you ungrateful swine."

"She was covered. They wouldn't find her!"

Find me?

"Now we have money, if she dies we get 2 million dollars if she wins we get double that!"

"That girl is going to die because of you." Alex's mother stepped forward.

"No she won't. Auris is a fighter." Alex toned down and seemed to go limp.

"If she can't find Auris...She will die...Whatever is in there will hunt her ruthlessly. Do you understand Alex?"

"Yes, mother"

"What did you do?" I dropped my jaw.

I ran and I heard Alexander behind me. I ran home, home to the place where there would offer no closure. I just ran. I was sacrificed for the most dangerous ritual ever to exist in my state. The only ever survivor just turned me away. I don't know what to do.

My only hope was to hide. Hide from all this insanity. One question still ran through my head.

Where is Auris?
