Dialogue prompt 27: "I think I'm in love with you."

~

"I know you're seeing black and white
So I'll paint you a clear blue sky
Without you I am colour-blind
It's raining every time I open my eyes"

(From 'BLUE' by Troye Sivan, feat. Alex Hope)

"Leave me alone, TJ."

The words were quiet, but they were ringing in TJ's ears like a shout nonetheless. He took a startled step backwards, shock written all over his face.

"Cyrus?" he questioned gently, his voice cracking slightly.

"Go away. Please."

There was icy, howling wind sweeping through his hair, but somehow he felt numb. He barely even registered the rain drops that were splashing against the concrete in front of him.

"I'm not leaving. Not when you're like this."

He tried to make his voice sound firm, but he fell short drastically. They ended up coming out shaky; desperate. The boy didn't respond after that, and TJ let out a defeated sigh, running a hand through his hair.

Cyrus was hugging his knees tightly to his chest, his head bowed as rain continued to fall above him. Although the tree he was leaning against was bushy, it didn't block out all of the drops, and TJ almost felt inclined to take off his jacket and cover the boy with it.

He refrained.

"Tell me what's wrong, muffin," he said gently, taking a hesitant step forward. Cyrus flinched slightly at the movement, and TJ's heart shattered right then and there.

"Are you..." he trailed off, his voice thick with the effort of holding back tears. "Scared of me?"

Cyrus vehemently shook his head. TJ let out another shaky sigh. The wind and rain were only picking up now, and the angry grey clouds above them were showing no sign of clearing up anytime soon. The streets were eerily empty and the park next to them looked gloomy with no one in it, the swings swaying softly in the breeze.

"Then why won't you let me help you?"

Cyrus looked up at him then, his eyes puffy from crying. "TJ. I told you to leave me alone."

"But you're my boyfriend! It hurts seeing you like this!"

The rain was beginning to blend in with the tears streaming down his face, and he couldn't be more grateful. Never in his life had he seen Cyrus look so broken. The defeated boy in front of him wasn't the Cyrus he was used to, and the sight was shattering him.

"I'm sorry for raising my voice," he murmured, kneeling down in front of the boy. "I'm just worried."

Cyrus buried his face in his heads.

"I know," came the muffled response.

TJ paused for a moment, looking up at the dreary grey sky through the tree's leaves.

"You don't have to talk to me. But can I please stay?"

Cyrus drew his hands back slightly, looking up at TJ in concern. He ignored the question completely.

"I didn't mean to make you cry."

"You didn't," TJ assured, but he was immediately betrayed by another shuddering intake of breath.

"I did. I screwed up. Like I always do."

"Cy?" TJ questioned softly, reaching a hand out to the boy's face.
