"Say 'good morning, Daddy.'" Alexis prompts, rubbing Nolan's stomach. Nolan giggles and shakes his head, rubbing his nose against her shoulder. "Oh, sweet boy." She sits on the edge of her bed, running her finger over Julian's cheek. "You feeling any better?"
He shakes his head. "My head is so full right now. And it's pounding. I don't think I can lift it off the pillow. What time is it?"
"Almost ten. Don't worry, I already texted everyone on shift today, from your phone, that you won't be coming in. They know to open without you."
"Thank you, Lex. Good morning, Nolan. Why aren't you saying good morning to me?" He teases, tickling his son's stomach.
"I was gonna head out to brunch with my girls but I feel so bad leaving you here alone."
"I'm totally fine. I can manage just fine."
"I know you'll be fine, you're a grown man. I don't know how well you'll be able to manage with Nolan right now. He's been very fussy this morning and you need to rest. I'll just tell the girls we'll have to reschedule."
"No, no. I can take care of Nolan just fine on my own. I've gone this long without needing a baby sitter I can make it through a tough morning." He claims, sitting himself up.
"Oh, I know. I'll just bring Nolan to brunch with me. I'm about to tell the girls that I'm going with you so they're gonna find out that we're back together anyways. This will be a good way to make Sam meet her brother. It's been long enough she needs to grow up and accept that at some point she has to meet her little brother."
"You're really willing to cause so many problems with your daughters just to go to this event with me?"
"I'm not about to cause all these waves just for the ball, no. I'm causing them for the relationship we're giving another chance. For Nolan's future and for our third chance. Third time is the charm." She says, kissing his forehead. "I'm gonna take Nolan to brunch, and I'm gonna tell my girls that you are back in my life, as my partner."
"If they come to kill me I don't know if I'll be able to survive."
"They won't do anything, calm down. And rest while I'm out."Later
Alexis unbuckles Nolan, letting him pull himself into her arms. "You excited to meet your big sister?"
He gives a smile and pushes his face into her chest. She rubs his back as she walks into the diner. Sam looks up first, mostly confusion in her eyes. Having never seen her brother, he could have been any baby.
"Mom, who's your little buddy?" She asks, standing to greet her.
"This is Nolan, your little brother."
"Why do you have Julian's kid?" She asks, standing and taking a step forward.
"Julian's battling a a nasty cold and he just doesn't have the energy to take care of Nolan this morning, so I offered to take him with me to breakfast and my errands. We should order quick, Nolan's very fussy when he's hungry." Alexis pulls a high chair over and sits Nolan in it, sitting next to him. Her younger daughters and friend stare in silence while Sam starts to breathe heavily.
"Why do you have him?"
"I told you why. Julian is sick and needed someone to take care of Nolan this morning."
"So he called you, out of the blue, just called you and asked you to watch his kid?"
"No, he spent last night at the house. The night before that too. And the one before that. Nolan loves it too."
Kristina grabs Sam's hand, leading her to sit. "Just let her explain, I'm sure it'll make more sense when she explains."
The waiter comes over and takes their orders. Alexis takes Nolan's food out her bag, unscrewing the cap and starting to offer spoonfuls to him. "So, Mom, explain."
"I went to Charlie's to meet the man Julian was setting me up with,"
"Chris? The one who's in love with Julian?" Kristina asks.
Alexis nods. "Julian offered finishing a pie with him, so I did. It was nice to talk to an old friend after being set up with so many new men who just didn't cut it. Sam, Dean was so incredibly sweet but in his mind he's still in a committed relationship with his late wife. He needs to focus on truly healing and spending time with his kids. Molly, Jared was amazing. He's smart, very good looking, kind, and so much fun, but he's looking for a woman he can make a family with. He wants children, and at least three. I'm not going to start a new family in my fifties. Kristina, Stuart is everything I could want in a friend, but just a friend. A relationship between us wouldn't work and we've already gotten so close as friends that we don't want to risk our friendship. Diane, why didn't you tell me that Connor is married, and has a five year old? It won't work with him. Then, of course, I never actually got to meet Chris because he refuses to see Julian after Julian rejected his advances. I know none of you are going to be happy about it, but Julian and I have been seeing each other for a few weeks and he's exactly what I was looking for. Him and I are connected by something unbreakable. He is my soulmate, even if we keep tearing each other down. We always end up back together because that's the way it's meant to be. I am taking Julian to the Nurse's Ball with me, as my date. Stuart is coming with us but not as my date. I don't care if all three of you disapprove. Life has lead me back to Julian to so many times that I can't keep running from it, from him. I accept that Julian and I can't escape each other. You all should too. As soon as Nolan is done eating, I'm leaving and going to do my errands. You all need to get over yourselves. Diane, your husband is a mobster. Sam, your husband is a hitman. Kristina, your father is a mob boss and yet you're dating a cop. Molly, I can't stay anything to you, TJ is an angel, but you need to get over it too. Julian may not be the perfect man, I know he isn't. He's far from it. He is a hot mess, a barely functioning human being. But he is the perfect man for me. He is, and he always has been, my Mr. Right."The End
