We have been traveling for days now. We haven't found food for weeks. We were slowly starving to death. On the way though, we have started to improve our fighting skills. We have killed 7 more dragons. We were almost invisible.

Most of the time.

I woke up to the smell of deer. I got up, stretched, and saw Tree carrying a large stag by it's neck. I could tell he was proud of his catch because he was holding his head high.

"Moon! You're awake. Look what I caught! It could feed us for days!" He chattered on and on about the kill while I gulped down a piece of it. I felt the pain of hunger that was in my belly for days vanish.

After he was done, I nodded politely, even though I didn't here a word he said. "That is a very...INTERESTING story."

We decided to stay where we were for days. We couldn't carry the deer anywhere, so we decided to have a feast. A feast for a few days, I mean. After a week or so, we decided to head off again.

"Hey Tree," I said, trying to make conversation. "Were you born with your Rare Eye? Did you get it at your membership ceremony?"

Tree hesitated. He was obviously uncomfortable with this question. I decided to tell him where I got mine first. "When I was a dragonet, I was a pretty sickly child. I would get in trouble a lot. I never played with my siblings and one of them always SNITCHED." I heard him snicker. "The other one was always cool. He was like me. He didn't care. We were best friends. We would break things on other people's territory, and blame it on The Snitchy One. Good times..." I murmured. "It was so much fun, until the Membership Ceremony. When I was declared a member, My eye became red. My parents were locked up. My brothers were locked up. Everyone I loved was locked up. I ran away, vowing that I would return. I started to have depression. I had a crave for blood, too. My heart became colder. So I started to assassinating people, and that made me better!"

Tree stopped walking and stared at me. "Nice story. I guess it's only fair to tell you mine..."

"I was born, training to become a royal guard. My dad was a general. My mom... died when she laid my egg. My dad began abusing me, calling me a 'mistake' and kept saying things like, 'She still would've been alive if you weren't born!' I was a perfectly good dragonet. My dad scratched wounds so deep the didn't heal properly.

"One day my dad caught me stealing gems from the queen's treasure. "You worthless mistake!" He yelled at me. "Why would you do something like that? You thief!" He scratched a deep wound over my eye. It bled so much that it turned red. My dad gasped and was convinced I was a Rare Eye. He reported me to the queen, and he was promoted to the Top General. I was on the run ever since."

I felt a wave of sympathy crash over me. "I'm so sorry! Didn't you have any siblings?"

His eyes immediately darkened. "Yes. But I'd rather not talk about it."

"Oh... I'm very sorry..."

.*--*.

A few more days had passed. We had just eaten a few baby pigs. I licked my lips and took another bite. I wasn't enough, but it was a nice snack!

Me and Tree were becoming close. We talked everyday, and we stood side by side when we ate. We shared interesting stories about when we were little. (Of course, not the ones Tree was uncomfortable talking about.) We were very close friends.

We were also finding Interesting places on our journey. I saw Purple Magma, the place where the Fire Element went for their membership ceremony. "Woah!" I was amazed. I even tried to touch a flame. That did not end well. Tree was laughing at me while I was trying to blow out the fire it created on my talon. That didn't end well, either. Not for Tree, anyway. I had him pinned to the ground.

I told him interesting stories about The Snitchy One, and he told me stories about being a Guard-in-Training. Overall, we had a good time.

Back to present time - Tree and I are walking through The Dark Forest. It was dark and scary, and I clung to Tree most of the time. Luckily, we are currently almost at the end. After we got out of the forest, Tree said, "I'm going to go hunt for a bit. See you later!"

I sighed. I laid down next to a tree and rested my head on my paws. I sighed again. I thought about my family. My dad, always telling me not to go to the sandy cave. I thought about my mom, teaching me how to fight like a warrior. I remember Asteroid, my faithful brother who always stood by my side. I didn't miss The Snitchy One a bit. What Tree doesn't know, I thought, is that I have depression. I always hide my feelings from him.

My life is too disastrous for me to go living on like this. When I was a dragonet, I wanted a family. I wanted to live a normal life. I just wanted to chill with my mate, and maybe have kids, and then I would have grandkids. I even thought about my kids' names. Star, Midnight, Comet...

But I never wanted to be on the run like this! I need to make a change.

I sighed one more time.

I just wanted it to be simple...
