Back in 2004, Real World San Diego was my first MTV reality show. I used to record the episodes on a VHS. (Young bucks, Google it if you don't know what a VHS is, lol.) I would watch them late at night on the weekends when my parents were asleep, because they wouldn't let me watch that kind of show as a young teenager. Then, I came across Road Rules and later on The Challenge. Since then, I fell in love with MTV's reality shows and I, as an adult now, watch them live or record them on my DVR.
Scott Yager and MTV's Derrick Kosinski started a podcast called Challenge Mania, where they interview The Challenge cast members, past or present. They also recap the episodes on their Patreon page, where they sometimes bring in Challenge cast members to talk about the latest Challenge episode. Eventually, Scott and Derrick started doing live shows with special guests in big cities. I knew I had to go to one. Some of them were either too far from me or the dates didn't work with my schedule, but I knew it was going to happen eventually.
Then, it finally happened! Scott and Derrick were bringing a live show to Austin, Texas with Katie (Doyle) Cooley, Hunter Barfield, Nelson "Nelly" Thomas, and Marlon Williams, who now goes by Black Zeus.
None of my closest friends or any of my family members watch the show. I knew I couldn't drag anyone to go with me. So, I went solo! Yup, that's right. By myself! Honestly, I wasn't worried going solo because I told myself I was gonna have a good time and I tend to make friends at fun events like this.
The day of the show, I showed up at 12:30pm as Derrick and Scott recommended for those who had meet and greet passes. Two guys - who are best friends - got there at the same time as I did and we hit it off as we waited outside in line. We talked about who we liked, who we loathed, our favorite episodes, seasons, and moments the entire time we waited. Once we were inside, we sat together in the front row.
Scott hit the stage and welcomed everyone. He randomly asked people where they were from. He picked me and once I told him my name, he immediately recognized me since I always tag him on Twitter anything Challenge Mania related, ha. Afterwards, Scott explained how the meet and greet would work and where the Challengers would be stationed.
The two main Challengers I HAD to meet were Derrick and Hunter. They're both definitely favorites of mine and good looking, obviously!
