Emma's POV-
Today was supposed to be a new start for me. I thought I could finally forget about him. But I guess it wouldn't have been as easy as it sounded. Forgetting isn't as easy as it sounds. Especially when it's forgetting someone who you can't even go a whole day without thinking about. What happened today wasn't helping at all.
I woke up this morning with tears streaking down my face. I quickly got up before anyone noticed and started getting ready for school. I walked the whole way since it was warm out and the school's only a mile from my house. I was 10 minutes earlier than usual. I went to my locker, got my things for class and went upstairs to algebra on the 4th floor. During algebra the teacher said...
Teacher: "Today we are going to have a new student. It seems they aren't here yet though. And since we finished our last unit, we are changing seats. This time it's a bit different. Pick a card and go sit at the desk with the matching symbol and number. Anyone here with a vision problem?"
I raised my hand. I'm slightly near-sighted. I usually where contact lens, but at home I still wear glasses. I used to wear glasses in elementary school, but I always took them off for sports, so the contact lens are easier for me. They aren't perfect though.
The teacher separated the deck of cards, took out one card, and had me choose from the rest.
Ace of diamonds.
That was my card.
He let the rest of the students pick and then we went to find our seats. I was in the Ace group. My group had Shon, my science partner whose really smart and has a very large group of friend in the class, and Amy, a girl who, for some reason, really hates me, and the feeling is mutual. There was also an empty seat next to me. Probably for the new student. Was that the card that the teacher took out. The card for that seat was. ACE OF HEARTS.
The same card I picked last time we changed seats.
We started our next unit. The test was scheduled for the week after winter break. Today was our last day before the break started.
A new student, half way through the year? And on the last day before th break, too.
After algebra, we had graphic design class.
As I mad my way down stairs to the 3rd floor, I couldn't help wondering who this person could be.
I was only a few feet from the classroom when I bumped into someone.
?: Sorry!
Emma: It's fine.
?: I'll help you up.
Emma: Thanks.
He reached down to help me get up, and then, before I knew it, I was nailed up against the wall. I didn't even know how to react. That's when I finally got a glance at his face. I couldn't believe I didnt recognize him sooner.
?: I finally found you again! Are you ok. Emma.
My eyes filled up with tears. I quickly tried to blink them away but one escaped and streaked down my face. All I could do was say his name under my breath, it's been so long since I was able to say it out loud.
Emma: Rien!
He quickly wiped the tear from my face. Just like he used to do when we were little. Whenever I cried back then, he would always wipe them away and say,
Rien: "Dont cry so much okay? You dont have to cry. I'll always protect you."
He smiled.
Rien: "We meet again."
