We walk through this world,
Searching for the one-
Searching for the thing
That makes us come undone.

We search for a thing
That will bring us endless joy,
But what we do not see
Is what we have employed.

Now we search for tender kisses,
For holding others hands,
For looking at a sunset,
Or a scape of land.
We search these things of joy,
That leave us feeling full,
But once the sun has set,
So too does the pull.

We don't search the eye,
For what really lies beneath-
Sometimes a safe haven,
Sometimes a jagged row of teeth.

We know what we "deserve,"
But we overlook what's real.
We don't search for understanding,
We search for what we want to feel.

But now I know the difference,
Now I search the eye.
I search for understanding
Because that's what lets me fly.

To know that someone cares
Enough to break their thoughts,
Makes my heart skip a beat
More than any roses bought.
To know that someone stops,
To really understand,
Shows love beyond all measure,
Because it takes all self demand.

It hurts to think that we,
Collectively, do not
See things the way that I have-
The way that I have been bought.
It hurts to know that some
Won't ever really see
The things that have been given
Like this great gift to me.

And so I hope that these words,
Set to rhyme in scheme,
Will open up your eyes,
To what love really means.
Maybe you will learn,
But perhaps you will not,
All I know is what I want,
And it's this love I know I've got.
