I sat there for a few minutes trembling, her hand still in mine. I half expected her to jump up and say 'I got you! Now lets go eat pizza.' But I knew hat wouldn't happen. What would happen now? I looked at the phone in my hand. Where would i go now? I would rather DIE than go to an adoption house, i've seen that type of thing in Annie. The one near my house doesn't look to good either. Move in with someone? nah, that would be creepy. At that time, I saw a shadow run by my house, being chased by a police siren.
I walked outside, wiping of my teary eyes before looking across the street at the person. He had muddy shoes, a plain black T-shirt that hung loosely on his torso, and running shorts that stopped right above of his knee. And the most suprising thing- he was smiling! Being chased by cops and smiling? Kind of a crazy match. The boy looked back at me, gave a thumbs up, and ran away. The sirens slowly became softer until it dissapeared completely. I walked back inside slowly, pondering what i had just seen.
I lay next to my mom for minutes? Hours? I didn't count but it felt like only a few minutes before the phone rang. I picked it up slowly.
"Hello?" A woman called on the other side, her voice slightly broken up.
"Hi." I said shakily.
"Is the head of the house there?"
"Who?"
"Your mom?"
I hung up the phone after that, panting slightly. What if they came over now? I had to leave, but where too? The only option left.
I would have to follow that boy.
