Chapter 40

I parked the car and got out, striding up to the house.

“Right so it’s three bedrooms, period terrace house. Fantastic location. Free parking permits. North facing. Double glazed-“

“Can you slow down? And maybe speak in English?”

I turned to see Aaron looking up to the house. “Just… It’s a good house. On paper. I’ll worry about the technical stuff. You just… look.”

I was still a few paces ahead of Aaron and let myself through the door.

I froze in the reception room and stared.

Aaron lumbered up behind me. He really wasn’t into looking at houses and my desperation to find the right house had gone on so long that he was getting tired with the search.

“This is it.” I said simply.

I saw him do a double take at me as I walked through the massive living room and into the kitchen.

Hard wood flooring. Granite work tops. Island in the centre with a breakfast bar. It led into a conservatory which was being used as a dining room.

The feature on the top of our list was a garden for Apollo and this house had a beautiful one. It was big for London.

I walked back past Aaron who was just tapping at the kitchen counter.

I went up the stairs and skipped between the three double bedrooms. I whipped my phone out and dialled Beth who was at the office.

“Have you been to the Hampstead house I’m at?” I practically screamed.

“No. Why?”

“It’s un-fucking-believable.”

“Seriously? You. Anais. Has found a house that she likes.”

“I want it. I want it. I want it.”

“What does Aaron think?”

“I haven’t asked him.”

“Well. Do. Oh and there’s been an offer on his apartment by the way.”

“Really? How much?”

“On the asking price.”

“Brilliant.”

“What about your apartment?”

I swallowed and checked Aaron wasn’t behind me. “I kind of… haven’t put it on the market yet.”

“What? Why?!”

“I… don’t want to… It’s scary. What if I fight with Aaron and then have nowhere to go?”

“Well. You can  come to mine, or Roxy’s or Kevin’s or one of Aaron’s friends who you’re always talking about.”

That was true. “I have to go. But I’m bringing you to this house tomorrow”

I went back downstairs and found Aaron. “Hey,”

“Hey you.”

“What do you think?” I asked.

“I… I don’t really know… It’s a house… I don’t really know what I’m looking for.”

“Well. Can you see yourself living here?”

“I can see us living here. But I’d live with you anywhere.”

“Well, we need to agree on our decision.”
