Ryan had been outside for 15 minutes before finally coming in and making himself at home. I rummaged through my closet trying to find a nice outfit for tonight...I was hoping it would serve as a nice distraction from the after school session I endured today. I chose a floral lace play suit in white with a pair of white plaited stilettos. Thirty minutes later, I was finally finished with my makeup look; a bold lip and eyes while keeping my hair loosely curled so it showed off my highlights, and then I headed downstairs.
Ryan was speechless at first, he kept telling me "You don't even look like...you." The whole way over to Sophia's place he couldn't stop telling me how different I looked.
When we finally pulled up to this house, it was obvious Sophia's parents had money since we were parked in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in town. Her house was huge. It had two stories and by the looks of it, we were half an hour late.
I ushered in holding Ryan's hand and headed straight for the booze. I wasn't much of a drinker, but tonight was a special occasion. I was about six cups in when I found myself kissing a stranger. Not just any stranger, a woman. I'd seen her standing with Sofia earlier so I assumed she was one of her friends but I didn't quite know her name.
We walked into one of the hallways which was basically where all the making out took place and kinda just went for it. I had no experience with women whatsoever so this was all completely new to me, and I was going to stop her but there was something about her...I just couldn't. She pulled me in deeper, and I followed. We were about to head upstairs when I saw a flash out of the corner of my eye and heard sirens. She pulled away, took a deep breath and said, "We should go out the back...they usually only enter from the front."
"I can't" I said, "I need to find Ryan first." She looked at me thoughtfully and nodded.
I searched the room for him as people frantically started scattering until I was knocked down. I tried to get up but right as I did, someone stepped on my ankle causing a loud cracking noise. I cried out in pain and rested my back up against a wall. The police entered, and me as well as a couple of others (none of them being Ryan) were escorted out. Upon exiting, many of Sofia's neighbors were outside their houses watching the commotion take place.
The police kindly escorted me to the front steps of the house to wait for the EMTs. I sat there, my heart beating out of my chest while looking up at the sky full of stars. It was probably almost one in the morning and I most certainly wouldn't be at school tomorrow. I heard someone approaching me and I assumed it was either a police officer or the paramedic but the breath was knocked out of me to looked up to see Mrs. Mills towering over me, once again...this time not at school.
"Mrs. Mills-" I said still trying to catch my breath from such a scare.
"Please, we're not on school grounds...call me Regina." She smiled kindly at me and I wondered why she was being so nice...did she not see the sirens and notice that I'm obviously in big trouble?
"Um...Regina, what are you doing out here this late?"
"Well someone called the police and I'm as nosy as anyone so I wanted to see what all the commotion was about...are you alright?" she asked upon noticing my ankle.
"It's nothing...I'll be fine" I said with an awkward smile.
That night she sat with me for almost 20 minutes waiting on the EMT. We sat and laughed, and it felt like I was getting a glimpse of the real Regina.
That's when my phone buzzed and I got a text from Ryan:
Ryan: Did you know they posted this???
I opened the link to see what he was so worried about and went pale as soon as I saw it. I rolled over and puked off the side of the steps (a mixture of shock and all the alcohol) as I looked at the picture of me and Sophia's friend making out. A thousand people had already liked it and considering I was from a large school, they weren't nearly done.
Regina saw my pale complexion and put her arm around me and asked "What's wrong?" She looked genuinely worried about me but I just couldn't bring myself to tell her. Instead, I handed her my phone and as she looked at it I could hear her inhale sharply and watched as her eyes teared up. She looked back at me, pulled me into her embrace and said "Oh honey..." I could tell she was just as upset about it I was.
The EMT finally arrived and I was taken to the hospital where they told me I had a sprained ankle. It was one hell of a night and I had a lot on my mind, I was allowed to be released from the hospital Saturday and luckily my mom was still out of town so she knew nothing of my adventures...I was safe, for now.
