Today I really am running late. Dad asks me to help him clear some room in a garage for some project he wants to start working on, then Mom makes me help her get the new cable box setup, and finally, I have to repark my car on the street that way it isn't on the neighbors half of the lawn. I send a quick text to the group chat I have with Mitch, Avi, and Matt to let them know that I'll be a little late before managing to slip out of the house.

Saturdays are always the ways that I meet up with all of my friends around eleven so that we can skate and catch up with each other. It seems like today it won't start for me until nearly twelve. I get to the park in three minutes, having cut as many corners as possible while going way fast enough to be considered a danger to myself and others.

"I'm here! I'm here!" I skid to a halt in front of my friends, breathing hard as the three of them look at me like I've lost my mind.

Avi's deep voice reaches my ears first. "Dude, did you race all the way here? You know it's okay to be a little late, right? I just like pulling your leg."

I nod quickly, putting my hands behind my neck so I can breathe better. "Yeah, yeah, I know. What's the fun in going slow, anyway?"

"You're insane, Scott." Matt chuckles, clapping me on the back. "And that's why we love you so much."

Mitch giggles at that, holding his skateboard against his body. "You're going to end up getting yourself hurt if you keep racing around like that all the time, Scott."

I roll my eyes, but only because I know Mitch won't take it to mean anything bad. I really can't respect him any more than I already do. After all, Mitch really is my best friend. He's been there for me at times I didn't even know that I needed someone to be there for. "Geez, you're starting to sound just like my mom."

"Well, maybe Connie knows what she's talking about."

"While my mom does hold lots of wisdom and untapped knowledge if I wanted to talk about her than I would have just hung out with my dad for longer." It's almost sickening how in love they are with each other. Ridiculously sweet, but sickening all the same.

Eventually, we get away from the catching up portion of our hangout and move to the skating portion. Of course, once we move to skate the catching up and bickering with each other doesn't stop. It simply changes form slightly with us all screaming at each other while zipping around on skateboards. Everyone else at the skatepark most likely thinks we're insane, but since we do this at least once a week they should all be used to it by now.

"Has Mrs. Myers yelled at you anymore?" I holler the question at Mitch while attempting some trick on my skateboard. I'm not exactly sure what I'm hoping to do, but I know it involves a lot of spinning and jumping.

Mitch looks up from the ground, eyes focusing on me and whatever wacko trick I am trying to make up. "Scott, if that woman didn't yell at me at least three times a week then I would be considered that someone traded her out with a clone."

I scoff. "A simple yes would have sufficed, Mitchell."

"Whatever." Mitch rolls his eyes at me but it only makes me laugh. "You already know that I have a reputation for being a drama queen, Scotland."

"You do realize that my full name is Scott, right? Nowhere on my birth certificate does it say Scotland."

"Oh, yeah, I know that. Avi just told me that it really annoys you for some reason though, so now I'm going to call you Scotland all the time."

A pout forms on my lips. "I hate you."

"Love you too, Scotland."

Somewhere between bickering like an old married couple with Mitch and attempting my random skateboard trick, the boy from last week comes back to mind. I keep finding myself thinking of him at the most random times. This is the first time I've thought about him while being back at the skatepark. My first thought is to look around but a quick glance, and even a more in-depth search a few moments later give me the information that he isn't around.
