"Hey there" she said through a toothy grin.
"Hi" i responded bluntly and awkwardly, avoiding eye contact.
"This delay is taking the piss right? I have places to be" she exclaimed, a hint of annoyance in her voice but still upholding that smile.
" Yeah but it happens all the time, i'm sure it won't be long" i replied, again not looking at her as i went to grab my coffees and cookie. As i turned back around to return to Jasmine i gave the pink-haired girl a small smile, just so she wouldn't think i was too rude.I handed Jazz her coffee and took a sip of my own, only to burn my mouth receiving a laugh from my roommate. I playfully shoved her arm causing her to spill coffee on the floor. Not being able to control my laughter, i held my arms up in surrender at Jasmine as she shot me a scowl. I heard a giggle come from the right of me so i turned round slightly confused. Is she following me or something? The weird girl was back, now sat on a bench one over from our own and had obviously seen my coffee incident and found it funny. I ignored her and turned back around. She's so annoying, ugh.
After what seemed like forever, i hear a rumble approach the station and look up to see our train pull into the platform in front of me.
"Finally, cmon i wanna get good seats" i say to Jazz who has been asleep for the past 15 minutes, despite having downed a coffee earlier. I nudged her awake as i got my belongings together and headed onto the train. Inside it was packed and i worried that we wouldn't even be able to find two seats together, and i was right.
"Eff, i'll just sit here you find another seat and we'll try and find two together once people start getting off" Jazz sighed clearly pissed off, i wasn't joking when i said we were inseparable. I continued moving down the train keeping an eye out for a seat and could only find one. About to sit down, i noticed that pink hair again in the seat next to mine. I guess i'm just gonna have to deal with it there's no other seats. I looked down onto the chair to see a black backpack which was then moved by the girl and put between her feet. Still smiling at me, i sat down, ignored her and began to eat the cookie that i had bought.I had managed to avoid even looking at the mysterious girl for half an hour now, and as i turned my head to look out of the window next to her i saw she had dozed off. Scrolling through my music, i place my headphones over my head and put on some music. My phone vibrates on my leg and i pick it up to see a text from Jasmine.
JAZZ: hey where u sat
ME: near the back of the train sat next to that pink haired stalker, it was the only seat left
JAZZ: oh shit haha lucky u, keep ur eye out for 2 seats for us then
ME: yeah yeah will do
JAZZ: unless you wanna be sat next to ur new friend ;)
ME: what? Jazz no shut up. She's been following me around all day its not like that
I knew exactly what she was getting at. Jazz was the first person I came out to and she had this weird talent for knowing when I was interested in someone, even before me telling her. This was one of the rare times she was wrong though. I mean it was undeniable that the girl sat next to me was gorgeous, but she came across as annoying and very obviously straight. "Wow. I can't say I'm not a little bit hurt" I hear a voice from beside me. Shit. She was awake and had clearly just witnessed my entire conversation over text. I wasn't doing a great job of hiding it but I thought she was fast asleep, plus who reads a strangers messages?
"oh, uh i uh- sorry" i stuttered, trying to hide my embarrassment but failing.
"haha it's fine no worries. also i have not been stalking you, you came and sat next to me" she snickered.
"it was the only seat left!" i replied, the first genuine smile for her plastered across my mouth.
"okay, okay sure." she mocked. "I'm Jamie, by the way"
"Effie. Sorry again about the texts."
Jamie smiled and turned to look out of the window at the countryside rolling past us."Next station, London." the announcement blasted through the speakers. I must've dozed off and as i slowly opened my eyes, adjusting to the sunshine now flooding the train, i realised my head was resting on something. Someone.
"Shit, i'm so sorry! you should've woken me up." i said out of sheer embarrassment after falling asleep on Jamie's, a complete strangers, shoulder.
"don't worry about it, you clearly needed some rest" she replied, in a surprisingly calm voice. If it was the other way round i would've reacted completely differently. I felt my face burning up as i made eye contact with her so decided to go and find Jasmine and get off the train.
"Where've you been? i text you ages ago saying I found us some seats?" was the first thing my best friend said to me.
"oh sorry i didn't see it, i fell asleep" i said, still looking at the ground.
"What's up, hun?"
"nothing. well i uh, fell asleep.... on Jamie's shoulder" i explained still clearly ashamed.
"Wait who's Jamie? ... OH. Your new friend." Jazz smirked, punching me lightly in the arm.
"Shut up, it was so embarrassing. Let's just go get a cab and head over to Shane's and Nathan's."
