Mara's POV
"Oh she's so pretty!"
"Look at her tail!"
"Can we feed her?"
I rolled my eyes my fingers gently running along her side in long strokes. "Actually unicorns don't eat at all, they draw their energy from the sun." I explain catching several scoffs and eye rolls as I do. Last time I share an interesting fact no one knows.
Lavender Brown shoves past me bumping the unicorn as she does, and she stupidly decides to stand in front of the poor creature spooking it more. "Wow, easy girl." I soothe stepping up slightly as she stands up on her hind legs. I run my hands along her neck keeping her calm while making sure she stays grounded.
"That's good just stay calm." I whisper turning her head slightly once her eyes have calmed down so she can see Lavender. I grab her shaking hand and slowly bring her closer to the still spooked creature both of them releasing a breath once Lavenders hand caresses her shoulder.
"See Lavender's nice she didn't mean to scare you." I chuckle taking my own hand away from hers so she can properly pet the unicorn. "Thanks Mara." She breathes smiling at me like I just saved her life and I'm extremely surprised since she's never given me the time of day before.
------------------------------------------------------------------Mara's POV
"That's more what I thought Care of Magical Creatures would be like... Proper creatures like unicorns, not monsters." I scoff, of course Parvati would say that. None of them actually understand how a CFMC curriculum is set up. We're fourth years so it's supposed to be challenging, maybe less life threatening but today's lesson was way too easy.
"And what about Hagrid?" Harry shouted before I could. "What about him, he can still be gamekeeper can't he?" She shoots back harshly returning my glare.
"That actually was a really good lesson, I didn't know half the things Professor Grubly-Plank told us." Hermione counters matter of factly eyeing me like I'm a mere child silently telling me to stay quiet. "Mmm, not so much." I scoff all of the other Gryffindor girls shooting me harsh glares.
"Well not all of us are magical creature geniuses." Hermione snaps back, and Leah instantly steps between us trying her best to split the quickly growing tension. "Well not all of us are transfiguration geniuses, but do you expect McGonagall to dumb that down for us?" I grip my books closer to my chest trying to focus on my surroundings once I start to lose my grip on my mind.
"Well no..."
"That's what I thought!" I shout turning around my robes snapping with me as I trot back down the hill. At the moment I don't care if I miss lunch, I've got something I need to do before I combust.
"She's such a freak..."
"Know it all..."
Female Chinese fireballs are larger than males... A group of bowtruckles is called a branch... A basilisks mortal weakness is the crow of a rooster... I pause taking a moment to make sure the voices actually stopped before I allow myself to relax. I walk the rest of the way to Hagrid's hut taking my time with each step wanting to make sure I'm actually fine before I go pounding on his door.
"Hagrid, please open up!" I plead pounding on his door desperately. I wait a few seconds and when no one responds I continue. "Hagrid I could care less that you're a half giant, just like you could care less that I'm a Malfoy. Even in the beginning when you knew nothing about me you gave me the same chance that all the other kids got, which is more then I can say for most people. You're my favorite teacher and that's never going to change."
