Note: this chapter is based off the Latin American legend/folklore, the story of La Llorona. I decided to feature it because of my Latin blood, so other races can see our spooky legends 😉 I hope you enjoy!
There once was a woman named Maria who lived in a small village. She was from a poor family, but stunningly beautiful. A wealthy man came to the village one day and met Maria. She was charmed by him, and he was charmed by Maria's beauty. When he proposed, she immediately said yes. They built a house in the village and had two sons. The husband traveled a lot and was rarely home, but when he was, he would only give attention to the boys and not much to Maria. She knew he was falling out of love with her. One day he came home and brought a young woman with him, said farewell to the boys, and ignored Maria. In a blinded rage, she went over to a river and drowned her two boys. A bit later she tried to search for her sons after realizing what she had done but the river had already washed them away. She was then mysteriously found dead by the river bank the next day. At the gates of heaven, God told her she would only be allowed in if she found her boys. So, in between the land of the living and dead, shes been wandering around rivers for years, trying to find her children. Some say if you hear her cry, you must run the opposite way if you want to spare yourself from death, since hearing her cry of distress and guilt can cause death or serious injuries. If she does find a child, she kidnaps them, then drowns them.
