Epilogue
Monday comes too fast. Going back to work doesn't only mean working. It means I have to be prepared for questions and maybe explaining what happened. That depends on who asks the questions.
If I could erase that part of my life or if I could erase my almost wedding from the mind of my coworkers, my life would be a lot easier. Life doesn't always come easy...
I grab my lunch bag from the refrigerator, and my purse from the kitchen table and prepare to leave for work. Before leaving, I always take a quick look in the mirror by the door and fix my lipstick. Perfect! With my keys in hand, I open the door and holy shit, I drop everything on the ground.
"Travis?"
"Wow, am I that scary? You look like you're going to pass out or something?"
For sure, I'm going to be late to work today. "You... You haven't...for over a week." I don't say what I have in mind but... I'm so surprised to see him here. "You haven't spoken to me or contacted me in over a week... what... what are you doing here? How do you know where I live?"
"Well, it's true I haven't. I figured you needed time to clear your thoughts and I was super behind at work so I kind of disappeared under a pile of letters, notices, and emails. Fun stuff, I promise."
"Come in, I guess." Then, I notice he has a carry-on luggage. He's staying overnight. "How many days are you planning on staying?" I gesture at his luggage.
"You don't miss much, do you? I'm here for a few days and I was hoping you would let me crash here but I understand if you don't want to."
To that, I'm speechless. I'm excited, so excited that I want to jump into his arms and kiss his breath away. Instead, I'm standing before him, frozen in place. I didn't expect that at all.
"Willow, are you okay?"
"You want to stay here with me? My apartment is nothing like your place. I mean, it's small, girly and I'm nowhere near a beach. My bedroom view is the brick wall next door."
"Yeah, but that's fine because your apartment has one thing my house doesn't have?"
Wi-Fi? No, he had Wi-Fi. What is it? I frown.
"Your apartment has you and I need you, sweetheart. The week without you has been rough. I would love if you would let me stay here with you."
"Absolutely. Yes... you can stay here as long as you want."
This time, I jump into his arms, and he catches me in time. Our lips connect and it feels like we have never been apart.
"This time, we aren't counting off days, ok? Why don't we play it day by day and see where it leads us?"
I nod. "Travis, I have missed you so much."
"My life wasn't right without you. I think, you and I, we have something special and I'll do anything to give us a chance."
"Yes... I want that too. The week has been hard, I won't lie to you about that. I'm still struggling but knowing that you still want me, I feel like a ton or two has been removed from my shoulders." I don't know if what I'm saying makes any sense but I'm so happy to see him here. Travis came to find me. It's the first time I'm smiling since I left Malibu. Everything is going to be okay now, I know.
To that, he kisses me again and I know I found my meaning to this life. Us. We are meant to be together. I know and he knows too.
