Chapter 5: The Decision

Kai and i stood there staring at the rubble of where my father was and he just screamed in pain until his cries died out from underneath the rubble. After about five minutes of comprehending what had just happened, i hugged Kai. When i finally let go, he looked at me with fire in his eyes. "It's not over yet," he whispered and i just nodded, knowing exactly what he he was talking about. By the time we had reached the cells it was 3 in the morning and today was the day that i had to choose my path. Kai just stared at me and when i smiled, he winked and walked away. Why did that boy drive me crazy. I couldn't focus on that right now, what was important was completing step 2 of our escape. I slowly closed my eyes to get as much sleep as possible, but couldn't bring myself to. I woke up to the security guard of the cells rattling the keys, trying to open my cell. "Alright hurry up."
He barked with the most utter disgust. He knew exactly who I was but not what I had done. I was dragged along the cells, the same way Kai had walked me yesterday to meet my late father. I was pulled to the bug hall with hundreds of recruits of the black dragons aligned in rows. Privileged senior members in front, all the way to locked up kids in the back. My uncle, Pete, the only other person who truly showed sympathy towards me looked at me with the most sad look I had ever seen as he stood up to the podium to speak. "Unfortunately, my beloved *not* brother in law, was killed in a tragic accident last night. May my sister and her husband be reunited and work out their issues. Now, we bring their only daughter, the heir up on stage, to decide her fate. To either join us, or be killed on the spot. What is your decision, Tahlia"
"I choose to...." I look at Kai towards the back and he just nods, and I know, the war has only just begun!
