Did she taste like one? Like a masochist?
This was the question that kept Kewan Park sleep deprived throughout the week. He would toss and turn. Then look at his plastered walls. Take his meds. Repeat.
"I'm trapped, hand on bars. I'm trapped, singing bars. I was counting sheep, and now I'm counting stars."
That jazzy, soul voice of hers rang throughout the day- louder than the sound of the metal drill press at the workshop. He messed up a few times, and the days had become agony. But today was finally the day. Friday.
It was midnight again, in the jam-packed basement of D-Troit Bar. This time, there were posters of Red on the walls - "WHO'S HER NEW ROAST?"- a poor photograph from last week, cheaply printed and written in marker. It was still enough to have Kewan rip one off the wall. He leaned against the post, waiting, when suddenly the audience rumbled. Wisteria Gogriez appeared in a dark red jumpsuit and a matching choker. She's too cute. He wanted to jump on that stage and take her. But for a while, she had to be Red...
"Guess who's back in the house!" Her melodious voice rang as the crowd roared. "That's me- the #1 Red, and I be up against-"
"WOLF." It was a heavy voice, that of a hulky man. The audience went silent, and Kewan gulped. It was a brute of a man who looked like he belonged in a boxing ring. "Okay, Wolf..."
"Let me begin, Red Riding Hood....you're not even from the hood. You begin to rap, but let me tell you, you're not any good (ohh!)"
Kewan knew: unfortunately, he was a natural.
"You live on West Melville Street, pure middle-class. I can't decide- you here to rap or shake your ass? (oof!)
Kewan hoped: she would be natural. Red up stepped up slowly but steadily as it was her turn.
"You're a hulk of a beast, and you sure want a feast, but you don't deserve ass, not from me in the least! (whistles) You're a wolf. Do I have to use this meat as a bait? Yeah, I'm pure middle-class, bitch- don't discriminate!" Hope was restored as the audience kept cheering.
