"How long is it gonna take guys?" Romain asked through the radio. "'Cause it's freezing here.""As long as it takes." Dan answered from the inside of the building. "We have a mission."
"He's right. So now shut up." Kevin spat from Romain's side in the van.
"Stop!" Valtteri interrupted. "Like Daniel said, we have a mission. So focus on that."
He was sitting in front of the wheel, ready to leave if needed. They were all working for a secret department of the government. Today, their mission was to insure the President's safety. Valtteri was a driver. Kevin and Romain at the back of the van were dealing with communication. They made sure the radio was always functioning and not hacked by their enemies.
Daniel left the girl he was dancing with to get a drink. He was acting like a guest. His mission was to look after the President inside the ball room. They were in a giant hotel, where a charity gala reuniting many heads of state took place. As a waiter passed by him, he took a glass of champagne before nodding to him. Nico smiled ever so slightly. The position allowed him to go anywhere in the building and it was a massive asset for this type of mission. He was used to working with Daniel. Their speciality was to infiltrate networks and destroy them from the inside.
Nico froze for a second. He looked at a woman across the hall and frowned. Daniel saw the movement. Swiftly, he joined the German and pushed past him. Nico turned to look at him.
"Focus on the mission." Daniel whispered.
Before Nico could answer, Daniel had faded in the crowd. He turned back to the woman but she had disappeared.
"Charles, step back." The German muttered in the microphone hidden in his sleeve.
The young Monegasque did as he was told. He was working with Sebastian. Their mission was to search the crowd from the mezzanine. He'd been standing too close to the balustrade, meaning people could see him. He looked up for a second and crossed Sebastian's look. The German was standing on the opposite side of the mezzanine. He nodded slightly in appreciation and Charles smiled.
Since they'd arrived, they'd spotted a few groups of people that looked suspicious. The French President was just below the balcony. The British Prime Minister was standing by the door. But what bothered them the most was a small group on the faraway corner.
"I think the Russians have weapons." Charles reported.
"Confirmed." Sebastian added.
"Why does it have to be Russians?" Daniil's voice sounded in their earpiece.
"Shut the fuck up Daniil. You're occupying the frequence for shit." Kevin answered harshly.
Daniil was a doctor. He'd stayed in HQ, ready to fix someone if there was an issue. Alexander, who was working with him, had come with them. He was hiding in a bedroom somewhere in the hotel.
. . .
Lewis stopped the car in front of the hotel. He looked around him one last time before walking out. He opened the back door for the President. The old man walked out. Carlos jogged to them. He exchanged a few words with the man. Lewis looked up and saw the two small figures standing at the top of two building around. Max and Pierre were watching the surrounding of the hotel to stop any intrusion.
"Max you're going to fall." Pierre said sternly.
"I won't."
"You will. And I'm not helping collecting the little pieces of you smashed on the ground."
