"Because of your strength" Chapter 5

General POV

"I don't ever remember you being this flirty, Gaara." Sakura leads Gaara through Konoha, showing her favorite places.

Gaara looks at her "I never had the chance to be this flirty Sakura, You were always head over heals for Sasuke. But I don't know if you're still that way for him."

Sakura looks over at him and meets his eyes. "I don't think I can.. He.. did some questionable things." She quickly looks back at the trail she's leading him on.

The topic is difficult to talk about. She believed in Sasuke's love for such a long time and she has now realized that it's all superficial.

"You can tell me if you want. I am all ears." Gaara grabbed her wrist in the middle of the trail to stop her.

Sakura looked back at him and sighed.

"He cheated, Gaara."

Gaara stood their silently, he felt bad for even asking.

"It's alright. I have to accept it. Like I accepted everything in life. I am not going to live a hatred filled life because of one incident. I'll thrive."

Sakura stood there looking down at her hands, her back to him.

"Don't worry about me Gaara. I still have my daughter. I won't be completely alone."

Gaara finally mustered up the courage to speak.

"I know how it feels to be alone Sakura. You could be completely surrounded by people and continue to feel the emptiness in your heart."

Gaara held Sakura's hand and turned her around.

"You're very strong if you could fight loneliness. I used to be consumed by hatred because of it. But you're different. This is why I've always liked you. Because of your strength, Sakura."

Sakura blushed and smiled up at him. His face was almost empathetic towards her. They stood in silence admiring each other.

"Thank you Gaara." Sakura broke the silence.

"Would you like to thank me in a different way? Maybe a date...?" Gaara blushed, He never expected to ask anyone out on a date.

Sakura chuckled a bit. "Of course Gaara. That sounds wonderful."

The sky darkened a bit and the sun went down, the lamps on the sides of the trail flickered on as the moon shined above the two.

"My daughter is most likely home by now. I should get to her. I'll see you here at 6pm tomorrow right?" She smiled.

"I-uhm yes you will" Gaara stumbled over his words because of the sight before him.

"Alright then. Goodnight Gaara." Sakura smiles as she went off into a different direction.

Gaara watched the pink haired woman vanish off into the distance.

"Is this what affection feels like?" Gaara clenched his chest.
