The winter months here in Texas had been colder than most but the summer here had returned with a vengeance. School had been out for a couple of weeks and I had been spending my time drawing and writing to curb anxiety and stress. It helped a lot, especially since each piece took upwards of six hours.
Kat was working a noticeable amount of time but made sure to be home for dinner with us. It was a lot different from Kara and Preston. When I broke a plate a few weeks ago, she didn't get angry, but just got a broom and cleaned it up. She's been hanging out with friends a lot recently and told us that we would finally meet them today.
Daniel has become a lot more outgoing and has somehow began practicing with Kats guitar. Hes good, though it was unexpected to come home from school and see my deaf brother playing the guitar.
To put it simply- it was relaxing. My art calmed me and I almost never had nightmares anymore. I still did cringe a little bit if I hear glass shattering but overall I was doing good. My scars were nearly gone and I was able to talk to others now. Granted- that didn't mean I had any friends currently, but at least I was able to talk.
Lets go Dani! I signed to him as he pulled his pants on. We're gonna meet Kat's friends Corbyn and Sawyer! Are you almost ready? He pulled his shirt on and we came out to the living room where Kat was waiting. How long does it take y'all to get dressed? Sheesh! Cmon we're gonna be late and they're excited to finally meet y'all after all these months! She signed quickly. These past months I had taught her most of American Sign Language and she had become fluent.
We rushed out the door and down to the car.
"Now the friends you're going to meet are not just Sawyer and Corbyn. They have just been the most excited to meet you two." Kat began as I began to translate to Daniel.
"There will be a total of Sawyer, Corbyn, Sawyer's brother Josh, and Jonah. I doubt you've met any of them before. All of them are insanely sweet and kind so I know they will love y'all. Josh is four years younger than Sawyer but still a strong part of the group. I'm sure y'all will be brought into the group in the same way." She stated with confidence. She hesitated before she said, "Sawyer and Josh both have been learning American Sign Language. Their baby sister Emily is also deaf so they have just recently been picking it up. They should be able to hold a conversation with you Daniel." She smiled. "I can't wait for y'all to meet them."
"Stop translating. You aren't allowed to say anything but... Sawyer has helped my through a lot in life. He knew about dad when I was still dealing with it. He was the first person I told when I got the internship at the hospital. He's the sweetest one and... I've liked him since I was fifteen. He is an absolute softie and cracks so many jokes. If you don't like my friends, don't keep it in. I love them but you don't have to see them if you don't want to. But I doubt you won't like them." She went silent for a little while. "Pull my phone out of the cupholder and type in 6264 for the passcode. My home screen is Sawyer." She told me as we pulled in.

"Wait-" Daniel and Kat got out of the car and started walking to a nearby table. "Hey Kat!!!" Chorused several people.
My sister. Had a crush. On the boy from the bridge. And he knew who I was.
