chapter ten:
|The Night of The Valentines Day Dance|

Himawari's POV

I woke up the next day to my alarm, like usual. My side hurt a little, but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. I put on my uniform and made sure to grab my phone and headphones before slipping on a sweatshirt and heading out the door.

The school usually would be quiet, since most of the students were obedient goody-two-shoes who kept quiet, but today was different. Today was the day of Valentines Day dance. It was your last chance to ask someone to go, according to school rules.

I mindlessly walked the halls as stares were sent my way. Chatter of the dance and the lockdown yesterday filled my ears, but I blocked it out with my headphones and blasting music. I walked into class, passing the many cheers and excited faces as hundreds of girls were asked to go.

You wanna know the reason I wasn't asked? It's because I'm quirkless, at least that's what they think. I wish I could just show off my new quirk to everyone, but I can't let my identity slip like that. That's something only an idiot would do.

I sat down in my seat at the back, just as everyone was beginning to settle down.

School hallway after all of Hima's classes...

I finally walked out of my last class and headed to my locker. I shoved my books and binders back into it successfully. I slammed the door shut and held it closed so nothing would fall out, I locked it, panting a little.

Even in this new body, I still need to get in shape.

Out of no where, I felt a tap on my shoulder I turned around to see someone's hand sticking out toward me.

"Hey, the name's Nise Tomodachi . I was the one who's phone you broke, remember?" He asked, rubbing his neck sheepishly.

I started at his hand in awe.

The guy who flipped off....wants to be friends?

The hell?

I shook my head a bit, coming back to reality. I put on a small smile and shook his hand.

"I'm Himawari Morales," I said, retreating my hand and grabbing my book bag. "So what's up?"

"Um...I was wondering...will you go to the dance with me tonight?"

What.
The.
Fuck?

I looked him up and down, scanning his features.

His pale hand rested on the back of his neck as his purple eyes looked down at me, awaiting my answer. He had curly navy blue hair that sat on top of his head. He was a looker, that's for sure.

"U-um sure," I mentally face palmed at my stutter.

"Sounds good! I'll meet you in front of the school at 8, alright?" He asked and I nodded, slipping on my book bag.

I walked to the subway and rode home. I was still a little tired from yesterday, and I didn't want to have to walk all the way home.

I opened the front door and greeted my mom. She did the same as I walked up the stairs to my room.

I might as well hang out for a bit. I have about 3 hours til I have to meet Tomodachi.

I thought to myself, looking my clock that read "5:00 pm" in big red font.
