James Whitney was an evil man, and he loved that. He now lounged behind his monstrous desk, smoking a cigar. Reports from all over his empire of evil lay across his desk. The reports from the smuggling operation lay next to those of the drug production operation, which lay next to the human trafficking reports, which lay next to the dogfighting operation reports. Behind him, six file cabinets full of more reports, as well as countless newspaper articles calling him flattering names like "James 'The Snake' Whitney" and "The King of Filth." He preferred the title emperor really, but that didn't matter now. The windows were shuttered and the doors were locked. James held an unlit cigar between his teeth. Unlit for dramatic effect. On his desk lay a fully loaded .500 S&W Magnum, his pride and joy. The doors behind the doors were locked. In fact, the entire compound's doors were locked. And on the other side of those doors were the police.
James knew it would end this way. In fact, he was looking forward to it. As he heard footsteps pounding down the hallway, he lit his cigar and took aim, grinning. The door slammed open and James fired upwards, into his brain. He, the most powerful and feared man in the world, would be the one to end himself.
-S-
James Whitney opened his eyes to swirling darkness.
Beautiful, chaotic darkness.
"Mr. Whitney, the doctor with see you now."
James spun to find, floating in the darkness, a blond haired receptionist sitting behind a large wooden desk. He looked down at himself and saw a silvery gray suit and shoes. Standing on absolutely nothing. Just swirling darkness beneath his feat.
"Where the blazes am I?" James blurted, jerking his eyes back up to the receptionist and her desk.
She frowned at him. "How rude, Mr. Whitney. Please do watch your tone. But if I had to guess I'd say you're..." She grinned at him and blinked, her eyes flashing to black with an audible click, "...in Hell. 'What in the blazes was a nice guess.' But the doctor really must see you now."
With this, the swirling void peeled back to reveal the flames hiding beneath.
"Welcome, Mr. Whitney. Please enjoy your stay. I know we will."
