I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing.
Tiredly, I felt my way across my nightstand to find it, and just wound up knocking it over. I guess I had to open my eyes then.
When I picked it up and read the caller, I was shocked. It was...officer Sanders? Why was he calling me?
...and why on my cell phone?
Confused, I answered it. "Hello...?"
"Maxwell! I need you in my office in no more than 20 minutes, I've got an assignment for you."
"Uh-huh? Okay, but why are you calling me on my ce-"
"Just hurry up and get here!"

...
Well, that was...strange. I wonder what he--DID HE SAY TWENTY MINUTES?!
Shit, shit, shit, SHIT, SHIT! What does he need me for? Gah, I don't have time to think right now!
I flew out of bed, ran through the shower, threw my clothes on, and ran to the garage. I almost broke my key in the ignition and floored the accelerator. Twenty minutes was not enough to get to Havens from here. But that wasn't gonna stop me from trying.
Thankfully there was no speed limit on my street since it only leads to my house, and it's kinda in the middle of nowhere. So I let the speed climb to well over 100 mph. But at this rate, I'd make it there in almost thirty minutes, and 12 had already passed.
"Gah! C'mon!"
I didn't wanna have to use this, but if he really needs me there immediately... I take the gearshift rod and I pull it, turn it to the side, and release.
Overdrive. Yeet.
The engines roared and the wheels whirled, and I was blasted back into my seat. It took a second for my body to adjust to the acceleration, but I eventually regained control. I hit one more button and short wings popped out of the underside of my car. It was just enough to get me about fifty feet or so off the ground.
The thrusters were blasting me forwards and the wings were pulling me upwards. I love my car.
It only took me about 6 minutes to reach Besa Airfield, a total of 18. I landed and sprinted to Officer Sanders's office, and I made it there in exactly two minutes. Making the escapade 20 minutes exactly.
Yesss.
"Well," said Sanders as he walked into his office, "I'm impressed. Although I shouldn't have expected anything less from the captain of Delta Squad. 'Tis a shame what happened...we lost a good man."
I stood up immediately at attention. I was already out of breath, and now this? C'mon, man...
"Thank you, sir! It was no trouble at all, sir!"
"Did I ask if it was any trouble, captain?"
"N-no, sir!"
"I didn't think so. Now, why are you in my office again?"
"Erm... you called me sir! You said that you had an assignment for me, sir!"
"Ah, yes! Your assignment...I apologize, my memory hasn't been as sharp as it used to be recently."
"Oh, that's okay sir."
"Did I ask you if it was okay, captain?"
"N-no s-sir! No SIR!"
