Chapter 1: Lunch
Written on 2/20/197 years had already passed since Alex's last adventure in the old building.
She had kept the mysterious shard with her. It had stopped glowing when she checked it in her pocket when she got home that day. She had tried multiple times to make it glow again, but all her attempts lead to a fail so she stopped trying. She had grew sentimental of the mysterious object. Whether is holds some kind of force or not, Alex believed that the shard was important somehow.
Sometimes at night, when the owl perched outside her window hoots as she lies in her bed. She sometimes ponders that maybe... everything that happened to her when she got that shard was...real.
Then she would shake the thought off and fall asleep.
The whole thing was probably something she came up with...since she was a child and with her young mind she must have just imagined everything that had happened. There was no way that it could be true.
Now that Alex is currently 14, that experience was the least of her worries.
She strolled the halls of her school, Petersberg middle school, with earphones in her ears, not paying much attention to her surroundings. She doesn't need to pay much attention to where she's going for the students in her school seem to part away from the sight her, as if they don't want to be anywhere near her, afraid of her even.
You see, Alex has a very... peculiar aura. She mostly isolates herself, reading a book or listening to music... as if trapped in her own little bubble without a care in the world. If people talk to her, she usually responds coldly.
It doesn't help that she looks strange either. She has an unusual shade of grey hair, pale skin that shows a bit of her veins, short height and thin limbs. She had chilling aquamarine eyes that would give you chills when you saw her looking at you.
Alex looks like a witch and acts like a witch... which is why people suspect her as a witch. People in her school try to stay away from her, afraid that they'll get cursed if ever she really is what they had suspected.
Alex has gotten used to this kind of treatment from students. She doesn't mind being alone or being gossiped about anymore. In fact, she prefers it sometimes.
But deep down, if you really get to know Alex more, she's a good friend and companion. She is actually less cold than what she seems. Sure she gets kinda cranky and hot tempered and too blunt, but she's no witch.
And yes, she does have a few friends. And one of them is approaching her now.
Alex felt a small tap on her shoulder, she turned around and saw her friend since diaper days.
"Elias!" Alex exclaims as a small grin appeared on her face.
Elias and Alex are childhood friends. They met long before, during their kindergarten days when Alex accused Elias of stealing her crayons. Elias cried and Alex felt guilty so she asked to play with him instead. Elias agreed and they became playmates. They had been friends ever since.
"Are you going to eat lunch?" Elias asked.
"No, I'm going to swim in the pool" Alex said sarcastically.
"We don't even have a pool in school." Elias scratched his head.
"Of course I'm going to eat lunch, big dumbo." Alex rolled her eyes. "Let me guess, you're not going to eat lunch with me again. You'll have to study for your next period in the library because the noise in the cafeteria damages your brain cells and you can't focus."
"What?! It's true! I can't hear myself thinking there!" Elias shook his head. "But no, I'm joining you today."
"Wow! What a miracle. I can't believe you finally exchange studies for food." Alex mocked.
"Of course I'm not. Don't mock me just because I put my studies first...unlike you."
"Not my fault I don't really care much about being a goody-goody top student."
"I'm not a goody-goody!" Elias almost screamed in annoyance.
Alex chuckled and decided to stop. Elias is a smart kid, one of the top students in their school, but he can be a bit sensitive and sometimes lacks a sense of humor.
With curly brown hair and a charming smile, Elias can actually be quite of a heart rob. But with his dorky and shy personality, no one notices him much. And Alex only sees him as a friend and nothing more.
They both arrived at the school's cafeteria, where everyone sits on their specific cliches. It was truly noisy inside, with everyone talking to one another at the same time.
The two took their lunch food and made their way to their table, but not before passing by the rich, spoiled, and popular students' table.
At this point, usually you would expect a cliché scene of the popular kids insulting the unpopular kids and everyone would laugh and blah blah blah... but in this case, that isn't what happened.
For Alex is friends with one of the girls sitting on the table. A girl with shoulder length blonde hair, green eyes, and flawless skin waved at them.
"Hey hey! If it isn't my favorite grey haired person!" Bella greeted with enthusiasm. Bella is always enthusiastic and full of energy.
"I'm the only grey-haired person you know." Alex remarked as she eyes Bella's outfit. She was wearing a purple blouse and a swishy, pink, plaid skirt. As Alex had expected, Bella was wearing her usual color scheme because those were her favorite colors. Bella was also wearing a star shaped necklace, another thing she always wears.
"Want to sit with us?" Bella asked. Immediately the people already sitting in the table took all of the free space so there was no sit left for her. Obviously none of them wanted the witch in the table.
Alex noticed this and quickly said, "uh... no thanks. Me and Elias will sit on our usual spot."
"Oki oki." Bella looked a bit disappointed. But then she flashed a glare towards Elias, which he returned. They may both be friends with Alex, but the two don't get along that well.
"Argh. She's so annoying and energetic, it makes my head ache." Elias said once they were far enough from the table for Bella to not overhear.
"She's ok." Alex shrugged. "Look I know she's really hyper and wears more make up than Barbie dolls, but she's nice."
Elias shook her head. "See? You can't even say anything positive about her except for 'ok' and 'nice'!"
"Well we're friends with her though." Alex bit on her fries.
"You're friends with her. Not me." Elias argued.
Alex sighed and said nothing.
Their table was near a window, which is why Alex likes sitting there. She enjoys looking outside where she can spot the abandoned building she used to play in from afar.
She never did return from that building ever since her strange experience. She couldn't even be anywhere near that building anymore, yet looking at it eased her.
A sudden feeling hit her at that moment. A feeling of missing something... as if she was too far from something important to her. She remembered the shard.
She couldn't connect why her thoughts were kind of random... so she looked away from the window and pushed those things out of her mind.

A/N: This chapter was longer than expected...
Gosh dang my writing style is as consistent as my art style.... which isn't very consistent.
I'm trying to write as well as I can because I want this book to be better than any of the books I've ever written, but at the same time I don't want to stress myself too much.
