------------

Everything was so much easier when he didn't know about Viktor's life. When he didn't have to think too much about this, and they just went with the flow, gradually going from strangers to friends. Then from friends to something more.

But this 'something more' wasn't meant to be... it was just a fantasy, some sort of escape for the silly teenagers. A way to say goodbye to reality and just fly away into another world for a while. Because life was immensely difficult.

But nothing mattered as long as they had one another.

For as long as they had each other, hell, even death didn't frighten them anymore.

Still... A pickpocket and a prince could never be together, not in a million years!-- but they fit each other so well. Yet so many obstacles were on the way, stopping them.

And they tried and tried and tried so hard to maintain this relationship that they had created, but it just... wasn't meant to be.

The world didn't want them together.

And they couldn't do anything about it...

What power did they have agains the universe? Not even a prince, not even a king had a say in this, no matter how powerful his status may be.

They knew this from the start. They knew that they were asking for too much, but is it really too much to ask for a lover? One that you learned to love, and that learned to love you despite everything? Despite all the flaws and imperfections?

Apparently so...

"Hey Heine," Viktor nudged the other's shoulder as they were laying on the grass, looking up at the peaceful, starry sky.

"Hm..?" Heine replied, stealing a glance at Viktor and then back at the sky. His hands were folded behind his head for support in a comfortable position, which he soon switched, so that he could sit straight and lean on the one tree close to them.

"Do you think the universe fights for people to be together?" The young prince asked nonchalantly. His face was glowing from the moonlight hitting him, giving his eyes a magical glimmer. Almost like in fairytales. In children's books that Heine never got to read growing up... because he grew up too quickly, losing the chance to enjoy the childhood he was given.

The shorter boy looked confused. "Where did that come from?" He asked, resting his head on his palm, looking closely at Viktor.

"I don't know... some things are just too strange and strong to be coincidences." He smiled at Heine, and then shook his head, waving a hand. "Nah, never mind. Forget I said anything!" He stood up, stretching, trying to hide his embarrassed expression.

Heine thought about it for a moment, and then raised his head so he would catch Viktor's gaze again. "No, that's an interesting way to look at it." He spoke, slowly getting up himself and brushing the dust off of his clothes. "I just... haven't ever thought about it like that, so I don't know how to answer your question."

"Yeah, that makes sense. Heaven forbid, you thinking something cheesy as that?!" Viktor replied teasingly, chuckling at the smaller one who only gave him a grimace in return. He had to leave soon. But he didn't want to! He never wanted to leave Heine's side. They got lost into a comfortable wave of silence, neither saying a word, but their hearts spoke more than their mouths ever would.

"I wonder if the universe has actually planned everything out..." Heine said out loud, his sentence not really directed to anyone but the sky. Perhaps he didn't mean to let it slip out, but it did.

------------

And perhaps the universe did have everything planned out. Just differently from what the two were expecting...

So for the remainder of the evening, they enjoyed their silly moments together. Unaware of the future and its problems, lurking from afar. Waiting for the right moment so that they could strike, destroy the two, and then later put them back together...

Because life doesn't ask if you're a prince, a thief, or a commoner.

It just throws everything at you, not giving you another choice but acceptance.

That's how it's always been...
