"Um hi there." I stammer. "Come on out onto the couches." He says gesturing for me to come. "Okay." I walk out with Seaqia at my ankles. I plop down onto the couch and she hops onto my lap. "I'm Riptide, your new roommate obviously, and who are you?" He asks. "I'm Platinum." I respond. "Nice to meet you Platinum. You know you seem like you're hiding something," Crap, he might find out I think to myself, "but aren't we all." He finishes while rolling up his pants to show scales. "Woah umm, I'm not hiding anything." "You know you're a really bad liar." "I know." "Okay then, show me." "Fine." I mutter. I lift up my cloak to reveal my scaled legs. "Woah you too, this is so strange." "I woke up on my birthday like this." I spit out. "Really, me too. My birthday was a week ago, when was yours?" "Today actually." "Well then happy birthday. You know we should tell the principal about this right." "I guess it's for the best." "Okay, then take off your clothes." "What no." I screech. "It'll feel natural." "No, no, no." "Come on, we're both the same." "Fine." Reluctantly I take off everything I'm wearing. He does the same. My legs feel free like they just escaped jail. I'm wearing no shirt, and my scales only cover my legs and feet. Everything below my waist, is different. Don't ask how different, just different as in nothing but scales. I run into my room and grab a clean t-shirt. I toss it over my head and over my chest. I can feel a sharp pain from my lower end, wince, and fall to the floor. I never noticed that my scales were a pattern of blues and silvers, while Riptides are green and teal. "Hey you good bro?" Riptide asks. "What do you think!" I screech. "Okay chill man." I writh in pain on the floor. Slowly a tail starts to come out of that area where a tail belongs. It finishes after a few minutes and I'm just left there, panting, lying on the floor. "Woah, dude. Epic tail." Riptide exclaims. I look behind me and see a tail, obviously, but it's a mixture of black, red, and silver. Slowly my feet change that same colour. "That's so cool. How'd you do that?" Riptide asks excitedly. "Do what?" I question. "Change your scale colour." "I can." I think of fish and the ocean and instantly my scales start to turn seaweed green and shark blue. "Woah." I say quietly. "I've never heard of this before." Riptide says out loud. We hear a knocking at our door. "Who is it?" I call. "It's the principal, Mr. Draconus." "Crap, he'll see us." "He already knows," Riptide mutters, "I told him on the phone." "Okay then. Come in." The doorknob twists and clicks as Mr. Draconus steps in. "Hello, seems like you've settled in nicely." He says. "We sure have." Riptide smiles. "Listen, this may be hard to show everyone but you have to. Here's a secret, I'm one of you." "Wait what." I whisper as my scales change to a curious orange. "Yep, woah your scales are changing colour." He says while looking at my scales. "I know it's weird." "It's amazing, intriguing. I don't know where to start." "You can start by leaving." I grunt. "Okay fine, I'll go," he says while walking towards the door, "you two are dragon riders." And with that he exits and shuts the door. I can see a shine in Riptides eyes, happiness. "Well it's getting late and I want to sleep now, so goodnight." I say to Riptide. "Wanna snuggle?" He asks. "What no. Never ask again." I scream. "Okay." He says looking a bit sad. I walk to my door with Seaqia in my arms. I walk inside and close the door. Then I plop on the bed with Seaqia, making sure not to squish her. She rolls over, kind of mocking me. "Haha very funny." I say sarcastically. I pull off my shirt and put on pyjamas. I have an extra sized pair of bottoms to cover my legs. I cut a hole out for my tail. The tail feels weird because it's often dragging across the floor. I slip the pants over my scales legs and toss my tail through the hole. Then I search in my bag for a top. Great I forgot one. Seaqia can see my frustration and rubs her head on my leg like a cat. "Thanks beauty." I say calmly as to not scare her. I search the many drawers and find a few empty ones. I shrug and keep searching. Eventually I find a drawer filled with pyjama tops. I pull one out and stick my head through. I turn on the nightstand lamp and turn off the main light. I pull out my art book and pencil and start to draw. I've never drawn a dragon before, so this might get tricky. I start to sketch an outline of Seaqia. I then start to add more details to her feet and head. It's actually looking good. I finish those and start to move backwards. Oh no, the tail. Always the hardest part. I manage to create the tail similar to her own. Now that I'm finished drawing it, I have to colour it. I pull out my pencil crayons. I start to colour her head first. Then I slowly move down to her tail. It's finished in only 15 minutes. New record for something I've never drawn before. Seaqia looks over at my page and squeaks in delight at her beautiful portrait. I rip it out of my book and tape it to the wall. I then walk over to my balcony door and pull it open a crack in case Seaqia ever wants to exit. I jump into bed and pull up the blankets. Seaqia jumps up and lies down in a circle with her tail covering her snout. She squeaks something that sounds like goodnight. I say goodnight back and turn off the light. I lay my head down and close my eyes.
