It was a dull Saturday morning, at this time of the day people were known to be doing hectic chores and other household activities and it wasn't any different for Oge. Staying in Lagos meant knowing all the happenings in Nigeria as much the city was always very lively, Oge wasn't cut out for that life style so she usually spends her weekends at home and also getting jobs done and it wasn't any different even when she decided to move in with Jeff. They'd talked about it and seemed like the perfect thing to do and she hasn't regretted it ever since, even though all her friends were against it. She liked Jeff, there was no denying and she felt that was all that mattered.
She was busy doing the dishes as Jeff was out helping with the laundry, they lived like flat mates as they shared responsibilities equally and to her, that was the most fun part of it. While she was done with the dishes, she noticed that he was equally finished with the laundry and as that was the last part of both their chores so they decided to get food from a nearby restaurant.
"I think we should eat porridge yam and I can assure you that if I rush down, I'd be the first to buy lady J's lovely porridge" suggested Jeff.
Oge simply smiled and nodded.
Jeff looked at her briefly before almost asking what the problem was as he noticed that she has been so quiet since they woke up this morning. They always talked about their week and about all the things they did at work but it was different today, Oge wasn't present even though he could see her but he decided against asking her what was wrong, maybe he didn't want to upset her more or drag any irrelevant conversation or maybe she was just probably down which he presumed was normal so instead, he pecked her slightly and left.
On his way to the restaurant, He remembered the night before at the party Oge had invited him and how they were both having a good time until he ran into a former friend of his and he got distracted. He remembered when he looked around but didn't find her and he searched and searched until a security guard told him that he had seen her heading towards the building roof so he decided to follow the direction given to him by the security guard. Just as he was about to take the last turn, he saw an elevator door closed and he didn't necessarily see who got in but he knew it wasn't Oge so he went towards the door that was slightly ajar and on getting , he saw her. She was looking as beautiful as ever as the mood shone over her beautiful melanin skin. He also sensed that something was weird about her, she looked lost and she looked as if something was taken away from her. He had never seen her in that state before, Oge always knew what to stay even in the toughest of situations, she was always in charge but this wasn't the woman he knew.... her eyes were so lost, she was looking directly at him but didn't see him.
"Oge"?He called her name as if asking her a question and she blinked then tried to conceal the lost that was all in her face.
"Hey, I'm sorry. I needed to get air and he party was boring anyways" Oge explained and all the while, stammering.
"Are you okay"? You seemed liked you just finished talking to a ghost.
"Oh, I'm good. Can we go home now"? This time, she sounded more composed but still had some doubts in her tone
"Sure, but not until I enjoy this view. It's beautiful baby" Jeff spoke in her rather more excited tone.
"I think I don't" ...Oge didn't let him finish before she grabbed him and kissed him. The kiss tasted different, Jeff didn't understand what was going on but he kissed her back. She tasted so sweet, she was wild. He let her lead the way with the kiss and simply followed her lead, it lasted longer than he'd expected and every moment of that kiss was magical yet, it was different.
"Let's go Jeff" Oge stated after breaking the kiss and left Jeff standing there with one million questions in his head.He got to the restaurant and ordered their breakfast but on his way back, he got a call from Oge and she explained that she needed to step out and that she'll be back in the evening.
Oge came back almost mid night, she left her phone at home so Jeff couldn't reach her and by the time she got back, he was already asleep. She showered, ate and sat down on the bed right beside him. She looked at him and pecked him lightly on the nose, he stirred a bit and continued sleeping. She admired his features, Jeff was a fine man and it wasn't something to argue about.
She had ended up at her friend's place, and they had talked about the whole thing. Lola was someone she could talk to about anything and she always felt safe whenever she spent time with Lola. She narrated all what happened and Lola listened, she listened attentively and Oge didn't spare any detail. She wanted to know if she was insane, if she was doing anything wrong so she tried to justify herself as she explained.
"Do you have feelings for her" was the only question Lola asked.
"No"!!! I don't. She answered rather harshly and Lola smiled. Lola didn't know what else to say but she had listened to her friend vent and rant and she was grateful that Oge felt comfortable talking to her about it.
Oge thanked her and left hours later, she felt a bit better by the time she was close to her house and she knew she shouldn't have left Jeff like that, he deserved an explanation. He deserved the truth.
While Oge sat on the bed, she remembered when she was around 12 and had gone to her village with her family to spend Christmas and she knew a man called Chibueze. She knew people made fun of him because even though he was a man, he had so many feminine features and even though she was young, she always thought he was beautiful and he was. But she knew that he was different from every other man she knew. He was bullied also and when the rumor started to spread that he was gay a word she soon found the full meaning of, it became worse for him. There were times he'd try to get things from shops but they would refuse to sell to him. She felt bad for him.
But one day, it was just 2 days after New year, and there was a loud cry as a neighbor had found Chibueze dead, according to reports he was strangled in his sleep and it was later found out that it had happened because of his sexual preference. Oge felt so sad and very scared, she didn't understand why people would be that mean and wicked but she also in her young mind felt maybe Chibueze should have just tried to fit in or change, she felt it was his choice and he should have made a better one and since then, she had always decided that way of life wasn't one anyone should choose to live.
Sitting in her bed and watching Jeff while he slept, she soon began to reevaluate herself, decisions and perception about being gay and now, she began to understand that maybe it wasn't a choice after all. She convinced herself that night that she wasn't, she only had a moment with Aisha and it would never happen again. She wasn't going to let that happen again and she wasn't going to complicate the issue then she drifted off to sleep after a short while.Note
I didn't edit this, so sorry! Lol
