it was late on saturday,
when i was locking up,
because jay had gone,
and even though it was his turn,
i couldn't not do it.
and it was raining.
hard.
so i went into the hall,
to shelter,
because it was still open from the festival,
and i knew that no one would care,
because no one ever does.
not when it comes to me,
anyway.
i just turned on the lights,
and looked out of the window,
at the pouring rain,
and cursed it,
because i was missing dr who.
but then i heard the door swing open,
and i saw you standing there.
i don't know how i knew it was you,
i just did.
you walked in,
and you jumped a little,
when you saw me.
but then you smiled,
even though your clothes were soaking,
and your hair was dripping,
and you must have been freezing,
you smiled all the same.
you took a step forward,
shutting the door behind you,
"hi," you said,
"i saw the light on and..."
then you looked at me.
goddammit, you looked at me,
and everything just stopped for a second,
before you carried on talking.
maybe it was just me,
after all.
"hey, you're the coffee guy, right?"
i couldn't even nod,
"you work with... jay, that his name?"
you were still looking at me,
and i still couldn't move.
because you remembered me,
and you had almost forgotten jay.
and i like to think,
that if i had told you my name,
you would have remembered it.
