First things first, let's talk about America the main character in the first 3 books. To start she has blue eyes and red hair. Words of advice: when you are writing a selection fanfic and you describe America don't say she has Icy Blue Eyes And Fiery Red Hair!!!!! EVERYONE DOES THAT. From the way America describes herself you get the idea that she is not the prettiest girl. However, if you read the Prince and the Guard you will hear from Aspen and Maxon that America is pretty. Not to mention the fact that America and May are supposed to look similar and May says " Im pretty and you look just like me".
Behind looks is Americas colorful personality. When readers just skim the surface it's clear that America is Stubborn and Wild but beyond that she is extremely caring. She got into this whole dilemma where she couldn't pick between Aspen and Maxon because she loved them both so much even though she couldn't admit it to Maxon. And let's not forget why she joined the selection in the first place. She just loved her family so much that she would give up her lifestyle. She also did it for Aspen just because he asked and she knew he wouldn't be able to live with him self for holding America back from " opportunities."
America is also a great friend. In the first few books America always had a strong liking to Marlee. They would hang out and just be friends during the selection while most girls sat around hating each other. America even gave Marlee piano lessons even though they didn't go so well. Even when Marlee was getting caned she was running up to the stage. She looked past her love for Maxon and was angered towards him because he gave Marlee the caning. And you should never forget the heartwarming scene where America befriended Celeste. Celeste was crying in a library about her possible future and America assured Celeste that she didn't need a man to accomplish things. Unlike the other girls America became friends with her maids. She would play card games with them and always show kindness. She was constantly worried for her maids during rebel attacks and once went as far as to bring her maids with her to the royal saferoom.

Another quality of America that amazes us all is her stubborness. How she made sure she put up a huge fight when her mom wanted her to go to the selection. Make sure you don't forget that America screamed at Prince Maxon the night she met him, then she kneed him, let's just make a list of things she did: wouldn't like Maxon because of Aspen, physically fought with Celeste, tried to save Marlee during her caning, took her maids with her to the safe room, proposed eliminating the castes, and several other things. America sure has a way of making her opinion known.

America clearly inherited some amazing traits. Luckily they made America an amazing mother in the 4th and 5th books. She always stood by Maxons side and was so helpful with her family. She always had great things to tell Eadlyn, especially when she talked to her right before the report when she was going to announce her marriage. Although America knew Eadlyn shouldn't be making a marriage proposal to Henri she still supported her daughter.
Also you must remember that Ames fought her way through a heart attack!!!! Shes such a fighter that with a little luck and the fact that she was queen and had the best doctors, she was able to overcome what was nearly death.
One of my favorite things America did was assembling her womens room with Marlee and Lucy. Who could have picked better women for her children to grow up around. America is just truly inspirational.
