I said on my introduction chapter on the squad account that i made an entry about climate change for a journalist competition.
it is a part of the colomban competitions which is a religious campaign in U.K. and Ireland. Winner of the journalism competition will win £300 so yee. What you will read below is what i submitted. Deadline was on the eigth of Feb.
Marks for the entry will be rewarded for this:
-must have less than 1000 words
-have a good structure
-be original
-have good definitions
-have some of the pope's teachings on climate change (unfortunately i didn't have enough space for that one),
-point in life where climate change became a huge impact on youto be honest, i dont really care if i win or lose. the only thing i wanted to do was see how far i can go with my writing skills. so without a further a-doo, here is my entry.
also feel free to tell me what you think about it.What I think of Climate Change:
Climate Change is just currently all over the place, both in terms of what is actually happening and what people think. We live in a world where so many people have so many different opinions and views on so many things that everything will appear either good or bad depending on their perspective. Climate Change is just one of those things that ends up being so controversial that everyone has a lot to say in terms of the environment's current state. It's difficult to find anyone who has not heard about the impending disaster which is Climate Change and yet many people have both pessimistic and optimistic views on this entire topic. It is very controversial, especially on whether or not humanity can save the planet."Humans will reduce climate change for the better and they will be successful!"
But HOW can they reduce it? WHAT IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY to save our environment?"Humans could reduce it, yet a lot of people have other things on their minds to do and yeah, they are not really willing to change their behaviour."
Then WHY do you think and feel this way about climate change? WHAT is keeping you from at least trying to commit the tiniest action on saving our environment?
Okay, yeah sure. There are possibly more optimistic and pessimistic views on it, I'm just pointing out a few arguments. If someone were to come up in front of me for no reason and ask about my opinion on whether or not humans will really reduce climate change, I might as well say: "I'm actually not fully certain on whether or not we have the power to help our planet. Climate change is real and it is happening right at this moment in time. But the thing is that, I don't know what or how we can save our environment from the mess that WE cause. I think it is a question in which there is not definite answer to."
ANYWAY, the thing is that over the years, the environment has been going through a lot of subtle changes and there are so many things in the world are being affected.
All the outcomes amalgamate or come together greatly into one downward spiral. Whenever we hear climate change, we instantly think of rise in temperature.
Though that is linked to Global Warming, global warming is only a contributor to climate change.Extinction of numerous plants and animals, rise in sea levels caused by polar ice caps melting leading to lands and places 'sinking' such as Venice in Italy, strong tropical storms being created such as Hurricane Harvey in 2017 which caused widespread damage to southern USA specifically Texas. Water shortages, droughts, desertification (the spread of desert) in parts of the world such as Africa can cause famines such as in Ethiopia, the ozone layer is thinning out due to global warming which may lead to the sun's ultraviolet rays to harm the earth once the ozone has holes...
Consequences here, consequences there, consequences this and consequences that. And what has been causing all these problems?
HUMAN ACTIVITY.
And my question is WHY. Why are we a major contributor to climate change? In a world of 7.6 billion people and growing, we cannot sustain our current wasteful lifestyles. They are biting our rear ends and compromising the health of our ecology, which is shared by all living creatures and plants. Yes. We can blame the big, shortsighted corporations who are focused solely on profit and executive bonuses, for which they will stop at nothing. Yes. We can also blame world leaders and governments for being just as shortsighted and as corrupt as their corporate counterparts. But, are we not to blame for electing corrupt politicians and failing to hold them accountable for their crimes against humanity?!
How many people by uncontrolled corporate and political greed before we realise that it's killing us by stealth, because here in first world countries, everything appears to be hunky dory! When i was in sixth grade, we saw this long video in which a man, who was unsuccessful in becoming the U.S President, was giving a rather intriguing presentation on global warming and all its consequences such as those stated from above. When we finished the video, the teacher asked us our opinions on global warming. Some had short first hand opinions such as "Global Warming is bad enough as it is." or "Maybe there is something we are not doing right.". While some others spoke up having loads of views and it was not long until the class evolved into a debate. This really got us thinking. So many opinions were coming here and there on what could be happening.
Looking back it at now, whether or not you are pessimistic or optimistic or whatever is keeping you from acting on climate change, the important thing to to at least have the conscious to believe that our world is changing whether you like it or not.And really, the thing is that all what you have to do is completely up to you for there is no wrong or right way to help and reduce climate change for the benefit of our future generations.
God spent seven days creating this beautiful planet of Earth for us, the humans, to live in. And therefore it is our full on responsibility to take good care of it. We should help promote stewardship because there are many people whose lives are being badly affected by climate change and they probably don't have the luxuries we all have. You won't know what it is like unless it hits you. God loves us for what we can do. He made the world for us, so let's owe him back.
So, what will it be now?
