Chapter 6

The Nap

I was exhausted from all the training and so was Nathan and Jay so the trainers decided to let us have a nap. My head hadn't even touched the pillow and I was asleep.

The man came again but this time he was wearing some sort of armor. Not chain mail or steel but a leather tunic wrapped tightly around his body as if molded for him. His voice was raspy but gentle when he spoke.

Man: Elara you are in grave danger and you must beware.

Elara: Beware of what and who are you?

Man: My name is Vangard. I am a part of a secret organisation called The Fire Crows. You may have met one of my associates, Ricky?

Elara: Um yes. We-we met up a few days ago. Wait a minute. He mentioned you. (gasps) You're the founder of The Fire Crows! Bu-but your, to put it bluntly, dead.

Vangard: You would be correct, yes. You have to listen to me carefully as Todeszirkus are closing in on me and this is the only way I can get to you safely.

Elara: How are you here? These are my dreams, aren't they?

Vangard: No this the part of your brain that the chip controls. The chips are all online so hacking into them with the team I have isn't an issue really.

Elara: Anyway forget that. What did you need to tell me?

Vangard: Ah right. In three days your boss is going to secretly activate your chips. Only you, Jay and Nathans. That day you will all feel a terrible migraine and be given sleep tablets. When you are asleep, Avery will send out the nanobots in the chip to your brain. When you wake up you will feel normal but what you wont realise is that you are actually being controlled. They have had a LOT of time to study your habits. So they know what to do to make it seem normal.

Elara: How are we meant to fight this. Its MIND CONTROL.

Vangard: What you and your friends will need to do is stay awake. Lock your phones away in a room where they wont hear anything if they're listening. Once you have done that open your hotel room door. Ricky will be waiting with painkillers and three nanobot neutralisers.

Elara: So that'll stop them from controlling us?

Vangard: To an extent. Throughout the time they remain in your body, you will get strong impulses to do acts that with free will you would never do. You and your friends will have to remain strong Elara. Or they surely will win this battle.

Elara: They may win the battle but I will never allow them to win the war.

Vangard: That is the spirit my girl! (he shouts enthusiastically). You're a brave girl. But alas I must go. The connection grows weak and my team cannot keep it open much longer. I bid thee farewell and don't worry, you will hear from me soon.

Vangard fades away as I start to awake. But I still wasn't sure if I should tell the others about him. Everything he had told me seemed too important to not tell them. Oh for the love of God what was I going to do?
