The first few weeks that Bobbi spent at home alternated between her making sure that she was keeping up with her duties as the now queen and spending time in her room trying to figure exactly how her life managed to fall to pieces. Luckily for her, most of the kingdom seemed to be accepting of her new role, although there were still a few elders that scoffed at the notion of her ruling without a man at her side. All of that was about to reach a pinnacle though with the Christmas Eve Ball, not only had every leader from invited countries decided to come – a first for what Bobbi can remember – there were also a large number of normal citizens as well as a few tourists that had been lucky enough to receive an invitation.
"Are you ready your majesty?" Coulson asked, walking over to where Bobbi was waiting to make her entrance.
"Are you ever truly ready for anything?" Bobbi put a small smile on her face.
"You know if you want, you can leave earlier, no one would judge you for it, you know that right."
Bobbi nodded, she loved how the man and his wolf/dog dæmon had tried to make this change the least stressful it could be as well as making sure that she had time to herself in order to keep from getting overwhelmed, but he didn't seem to understand how much scrutiny everything little thing that she did would be under.
"You ready girl? It's almost your turn?" Mack asked. Bobbi knew that there would be comments made about how her bodyguard was going to be the one to escort her, but she really needed someone near her that would be there, but not try to baby her.
Bobbi nodded, rising as she brushed out any wrinkles that may have appeared in her dress. She had to admit that Luis outdid himself on this one, it was everything that she could think of.
The two made their way to the door they would use to enter the dining for the quick dinner before the dance. Bobbi took the arm that Mack had offered her with a smile on her face.
"You got this girl, but just saying maybe slow down with how fast you eat 'cause I have to say I'm starving."
Bobbi stifled a laugh, Mack would be the one to make a joke about protocol before they had to enter what is arguably the most important social event for the county.
Before they knew it, dinner had started and finished, and they were moving to the ballroom. Bobbi had just finished the opening dance with Mack when she heard someone clear their throat behind her, followed by what sounded like a group of people giggling. That didn't surprise that much, there was always at least one poor soul that got dared by his or sometimes her friends to ask the Bobbi for a dance. Usually, she would accept just to see the shocked expression on the face of those who issued the dare. Right now, Bobbi wasn't really in the mood to dance with a stranger but decided to first check the age and sobriety of whoever was asking her before deciding whether or not to decline their offer.
Bobbi should have known whoever was waiting for her was not a good pick when William tried to scurry away as Bobbi was composing herself. "It's only one dance, Will," she reprimanded the dæmon huffed in response before Bobbi turned around.
"Bobbi?" The man asked in disbelief, a man who just happened to have been on Bobbi's mind for the past weeks.
"Hunter," Bobbi kept her voice composed, now was not the time to have an argument with her ex(?), she wasn't really sure what they were right now, "So this is the Christmas Eve party your trip was going on?"
"Yeah, and you're a bloody queen. Why didn't you tell me?" Bobbi could feel stares from some of the other guests, it wasn't often that someone cursed at the ruler of the kingdom.
"If you want an explanation, we're going to have to start dancing, just standing here is starting to draw in stares."
"Fair enough," Hunter put one hand on her waist as Bobbi rested a hand on his shoulder while taking a light grasp on his free hand. "So, start talking."
"I swear I was going to tell you, I swear, I just wanted to make sure-"
"That I liked you for you?"
"Kind of, but more along the lines that this relationship could continue even farther if we wanted to."
"I'm sorry," Hunter blurted out. Bobbi was taken aback, even stumbling on the next step of the waltz that the two were doing. "I just realized that day that you were packing that was the day you found out about your parents, right?" Bobbi nodded. "And I was a total arse, I am so sorry."
Bobbi took her hand off his shoulder and rested it against his cheek, by this time the two had made their way into the center of the ballroom. "You were, but it's okay. I was being kind of closed off, I just had a lot on my mind."
"You still do."
Bobbi smiles, "You really can read me that well, can't you?"
Hunter shrugged and before they knew it the dance was over and Bobbi began to tug him over to one of the doors that led to a balcony.
"I just needed somewhere quiet and away from everyone to talk," Bobbi said when she saw Hunter's confused expression.
"Well, if we're going to talk out here, you need this," Hunter took off his suit jacket and put it around Bobbi's shoulders while Gin laid in a circle around William. "I don't really want to be the reason that the queen of Conova got the cold or something only a few weeks into her reign."
"Yeah," Bobbi looked down.
"What's wrong, Bob? Come on spill or I'll have to do something stupid."
Bobbi stifled a laugh before looking up at Hunter, "It's just I'm not really ready to give up my life, but I know I need to be there for my people. Meanwhile, there are at least five foreign dignitaries in that room that I have to impress, or else they'll cut ties with us and we really need their resources. And, if it can't get any better, at least half of the House of Lords are against many of my stances and even me myself, which wouldn't be that big of deal if they didn't each also have their ties to other countries and-" Bobbi was cut off by Hunter's lips on hers.
"Sorry if that was out of line," Hunter said once they pulled apart, "Feel free to behead me or whatever it is you royals do. I just figured that might help you destress."
Bobbi chuckled, "Well it kind of worked and don't worry the kiss wasn't beheading level bad."
"So, I guess tonight's it."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, you and I both know that you aren't coming back for the spring and I sure as hell can't afford to fly over here that often and while I do like talking to you, there are somethings that skype just can't do."
"Well, you know our main university has a pretty good social work program and it's a lot cheaper than those in America."
"Bobbi I'm not taking advantage of your position-"
"You're not, I can show you the prices later from the school website."
"Yeah, well I still have all my fees from back in the states already charged to my bursar account."
"Alright... well, you can finish up next semester then transfer here in the fall. That will give you enough time to save up for tickets and everything else you'll need to."
"That's such a long time till I get to see you again though."
"Like you said, we'll skype, which you can do a lot more with than you think."
Hunter had a look of shock and disbelief on his face, "Are you sure you want to do this just for me."
"Yes, now let's drop this before your ego grows any more than it already has,"
"Hey, I'll have you kno-"
Bobbi cut him off with a kiss, "You think too much."
A.N. So this is the end of Come From Away, I hoped you all liked it and let me know if you'd want to see more Royalty AUs, though probably without daemons.
