Deep Chapter 2:

Skylar and I met at the donut shop an hour before school so we could figure out this whole, “how to be seniors and pretend we are too cool for everyone” thing.

Skylar’s long waves were loose on on her shoulders and she wore a white lace romper. She was even tanner than I had remembered her being. She had been in Cozumel the last month of summer with her family.

“Oh my GOD! Is that Avery White? Come here sister!” Skylar opened her arms and smiled from ear to ear. Skylar was always one for making a scene in public.

I got up from the table by the window and hugged her. “Hey, Skylar.”

We ate our box of maple glazed donuts quickly and then Skylar moved on to gossip. “So, Avery, you’ll never guess what I heard.”

“Yeah probably not... What is it?” I laughed.

“So you know that huge orange mansion by Dolphin Point that has been for sale since Paris Hiltons dad moved out?” I nodded as I finished my coffee. Everyone knew that house. “Well you’ll never guess who bought it. The Davenports!”

I raised my eyebrows and pretended to be surprised. “You have no idea who they are, do you?”Skylar asked.

“Nope.”

“They are practically royalty! They used to live in Atlanta because their mom was a fashion designer. You know, Rose Davenport?”

I didn’t know. I had no idea who she was talking about.

“Well anyways, I guess when Rose passed away unexpectedly she left her husband and 3 kids like, billions of dollars. So they moved down into the Hilton House and the twins will be in OUR grade. At OUR school!”

“Wow!” I said sarcastically and stood up from the table. “Can we leave? I want to get a good parking spot.”

Skylar rolled her eyes and linked arms with me. “I missed ya. We’re going to make this the best senior year ever.”
