The thing that graced my eyes as I open them was the valley, foggy mountains, and especially the clean air that filled my lungs. I know it's surreal to experience a piece of heaven on earth, but here I was, enduring it. All because I had begged my father to let me travel by train.
It was hard to convince him because you can never really convince an Indian parent once they think something is not safe for you. Especially when you've lost one parent, it becomes difficult because even the thought of something occurring to you is a nightmare for them.
I had never envisioned myself taking such a ride but seeing the constant cloud view and eating flight foods makes you nauseated even thinking about those things on repeat.
I remembered Dad's exact words when I told him that I was thinking about going by train.
"No train," That was his instance reply when I suggested it to him.
"But I didn't even say it," I argued.
"You were going to." He doesn't even look up from the documents that he was reading in his office.
I huff with annoyance at his know-it-all attitude. But I wasn't going to back down. I was his daughter, after all.
"What is wrong with going by train?" I ask, crossing my arms in front of my chest.
"Everything," The stare says it all.
"But...."
"No, but Ahira," He points at the door.
"Dad, you said it yourself that I was a big girl and I was mature enough to make such decisions. Then why are you stopping me now?" I cross my hands in front of my chest.
"I knew I shouldn't have said that," He closes the document and joins his hand looks at me just like he does to his clients before making a deal.
I quickly raise my hands with frustration, "na ah Pa...you are not doing that business face with me. I am your child for God's sake".
(Pa means father)
"I...I wasn't going to do it." He immediately retrieves his posture.
I raise my eyebrows at him, 'really?'
"I always knew you were more intelligent than your brother!" Smiling, he comments.
"Then why not let me go by train?"
"Ah, I should've seen that coming. But beta, tell me. Why do you want to when you could go by plane?"
"Because Dad, Ma told me to experience everything and the good train ride is something I haven't done in my whole life. Please, Dad..."
"How can I forget you have your mother's convincing power," A bright smile appears on his face.
"Yes, a power that you are very much vulnerable to," I replied cheekily.
He laughs, "Fine. I am letting you go." Before I merry dance myself out of the room, he announces, " but I still have one condition, though."
Knock
I look at the door. Gaurav, his most trusted man, and my bodyguard stood straight at the foot of the door. His bulging muscles and heavy beard tells you that you should never mess with a man like this. Also, the long scar that he has on the right side of his forehead could scare the daylights out of any person. I don't how his children aren't scared of him. Maybe, this was why my father agreed to the train ride. And, why I was alone in this cabin when there is always a rush of people on the train. He booked the first class, which is much scarier than it sounds because you get all alone and only get to talk to the wall in front of you. Thankfully, I just had to spend one night with Gaurav sitting in the other cabin, right beside mine.
