"Pasta is ready," Abhimanyu sets up the plates on the dining table, which surprised me even more. Usually, if we were back at home, he would serve me on the couch and watch something on Netflix instead of the dining table. What was going on with him?
I move towards the table and see there was one plate more extra kept. Wait a minute! I look around the house once again with a different perspective. The printed curtains, the cleanliness, no dingy smells, only fragrance, especially him cooking in the kitchen. The fuck. He has a girlfriend!
Suddenly the bell rings. He goes towards the door, more like sprints towards it. I wait patiently for this mystery guest. Upon his return, I spot a girl. An actual girl appears from behind him, looking beautiful. Her black wavy hair, wearing a long white skirt with a top, and a denim jacket also a black converse, her face had a shy smile plastered on her face, if I may add.
"Hey..." I awkwardly greet her.
Instead, she engulfs me in a hug, "Hello. It's so nice to meet you. Abhimanyu has been blabbering about you," She gushes, and I smile at her, not knowing what to say.
"Heer, this is Aradhna," He introduces then adds to clarify the scowl on my face. "My best friend."
I look back at her to see her still smiling without a glitch. What my brother friend-zoned her?
"How come you never mentioned her?" Then I realized how rude I must've sounded, "I'm sorry."
"Oh, I stopped him. Because I didn't want you to think that I'm another one of his girls," She answers for him.
"I know how important you are to him, and I wanted to make a good first impression." God pinch me! Was I dreaming? She's the one who friend-zoned him! It became just too interesting for me.
"If the chit-chat is over, can we eat!" He interrupts, glaring at me. What did I do? His best friend was the one who dished.
Anyway, we all sat and ate dinner.
During the whole dinner, things remained far from quiet. Except for Abhimanyu, it was a quiet one because the entire time, we were making fun of him, and Aradhna told me how she and Abhimanyu met in Omega High, where they were both rivals of each other.
Later, they became good friends only when Aradhna saved him by saving him from a group of girls in college. Oh, and they were together in college as well, surprisingly.
College was also one of the reasons he moved out of the house. He got a boxing scholarship from Woodcreek University, which made him the best boxer to fight in the Olympics. That was also the reason he and Dad fought. Dad wanted him to continue the Business legacy, yet he wanted to box. So, one thing led to another. Even after my pleas and trying to get them back together, nothing has blurred those lines, but I hope someday we would get to have dinner like before.
Back to the dinner, in return for telling me so many blackmail material stories. I told Aradhana how he was before going to Omega High. He was a total nerd back then. Rimmed glasses, slim body, and topper of the class, but that all changed after Mom died. He switched himself up after she passed away.
I don't know why he did it, but he dropped his glasses, went to the gym, and worked on his body.
None of this was a bad thing. However, being in style and showing off were never in Abhimanyu's dictionary. Girls were his weak point, and talking to one was a nightmare for him.
Tired of listening to us, he said. "Ahira, you know your first day begins tomorrow, right?"
"What?!" I stare at him wide-eyed.
