Tilly hadn't felt beautiful in a long time and only realized it when Mary helped button up her beaded blue dress. Jewelry adorned her ears and neck for the first time in a while only adding to her self confidence. She'd always been told she was pretty but tonight she understood why people thought that way.

She sat down at her vanity table to apply makeup and further her ego. There was something about red lipstick that made her powerful.

"You look beautiful," Mary said, watching Tilly powder her face in the mirror. "I missed helping you get ready."

"What on earth did you do when I was gone?" Tilly asked. "I hope it was something interesting."

"I don't know if being a telephone operator qualifies as being interesting but it was work, " Mary responded. "I didn't realize how much I loved working for you until I wasn't."

"That's sweet," Tilly hummed. "You won't have to be a boring old operator anymore. I'm not leaving you again, I promise."

Melissa ruined the moment when she entered the room with an empty box. She smiled at her sister in red lipstick. "Don't you look pretty!" she said. "Where are you going?"

"Out," Tilly responded.

"Very specific."

"A speakeasy on 4th and Fremont. The guy that sold me our new house performs there and he invited me to come hear him play."

"Oh." Melissa folded a blanket and packed it into the box. "Is there something you'd like to ask me?"

Tilly rolled her eyes. "Would you like to come with me?"

"That sounds like so much fun, of course!" Melissa exclaimed.

"Just wear something nice. Not the drab you usually wear."

"Excuse me?" Melissa asked as Mary failed to keep her laughs in.

"Wear that black dress on the hangar. Show some skin! You're not in the country anymore." Tilly stood and held the hanger up to her sister's figure. "I'll take you shopping when we move."

"I don't think this dress is my style," Melissa said.

"Any dress that shows your shoulders 'isn't your style'. Put it on or you're not going." Tilly found her sister a purse to match her dress.

"Don't stay out too late," Mary said, wrapping a shawl around Melissa's shoulders.

"We're only staying to watch Rory and then we're leaving. Don't worry about us." Tilly put lipstick on her sister and stepped back to admire her work. "Beautiful. Let's go."
