I'll stay awake 'til I trade my mistakes
Or they fade away✥ ✥ ✥
Tilly hadn't been to a party in a rather long time and it brought her great joy to be able to host her own. Sequins in her custom made dress from a local seamstress guaranteed that she'd be the center of attention for the duration of the night which was exactly what she wanted. A lifetime of being second place would make anyone vie for unlimited validation.
Melissa even paid extra attention to her appearance tonight, shocking her sister by wearing a dress with a shorter skirt than she was used to. Tilly grinned as Melissa applied several coats of red lipstick and spritzed a cloud of perfume around her body.
"I'm assuming Pete is coming," Tilly said, clipping rhinestone pins in her hair.
"I can't believe it was that obvious," Melissa groaned, spraying two more puffs of perfume.
"If you put any more perfume on you'll poison him. Quit it." Tilly snatched the perfume bottle from Melissa's hands. "You look beautiful and it's only obvious to me because I'm your sister. He'll love you, just be yourself."
"That's horrible advice!"
"It isn't!"
"You don't have to worry about being yourself. You're naturally pretty. You always were," Melissa said, admiring the floor length dress her sister was wearing.
"Please don't talk like that, you're being ridiculous. Beauty is a blessing and a curse. Be careful what you wish for," Tilly responded, thinking of the sketchy men her so-called beauty got her involved with. "Pete's a very nice guy but you still need to be careful. You never really know anyone."
He may have a wife at home we don't know about.
"Miss Clarke, a guest has arrived," Mary said, poking her head into the room.
"The party doesn't start for another twenty minutes," Tilly said. "Who could it possibly be?"
"Mr. McCoy," Mary answered. "With more liquor."
"Is there something going on with you two?" Melissa asked, narrowing her eyes at her sister. "I'm not sure I like him very much."
"We're friends, Melissa. You know what? We're not even that. Business partners. We have a strictly professional relationship," Tilly said, annoyed that her sister would even ask such a question. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go speak to him. Don't spray anymore perfume, I'm begging you." She placed the perfume out of arm's reach and followed Mary downstairs.
"Miss Clarke!" Rory exclaimed, watching Tilly glide down the staircase. "You look absolutely radiant tonight! The brightest star in the night sky!"
"Thank you very much, Rory. Why are you here so early? Not that I'm against punctuality."
"I wanted to give you some good news," Rory said, giving his hat and coat away to Mary. "Brendon backed out of the distillery. It's all yours."
