How she wished she could spend every moment with Jack. It worried her he would wake up in the morning feeling guilty for focusing on her and not Nicole and pull back. She never expected he would be so dedicated. The man had to touch her. It was always sweet little gestures like the brush of his fingers on her hand or arm.
However, when they had a rare moment alone, he was a perfect gentleman. As they kissed his hands stayed on her back, on her face or in her hair. She was beginning to long for more. She wanted to feel his hands bring her pleasure, but she needed him to set the pace.
Laura was the only person she told about the change in their relationship. Laura first went through, I told you so, to worry Maddie would get hurt.
"I was hurt just thinking he didn't want me. Now he does and I won't live in fear."
"Be careful."
Maddie wanted to shout to everyone she loved Jack, but she couldn't tell Jack until he told her first. It would be harder for him to fall in love. He would experience guilt first and she hoped he wouldn't pull away. Everything was perfect when they were together. It was when they were apart that doubt crept in.
Fourth of July was a busy time on The Point. This year the forecast was for a string of beach days. The Point would be overrun with beachgoers. There were barbecues and gatherings. They invited both Maddie and Jack to Megan and Peter's for a party. The crowd was the poker friends and Maddie wished they could be together. At times, they were because Emma clung to Maddie so Jack stayed nearby. She imagined what it would be like to raise Emma with Jack.
Like most social gatherings the ladies and men separated. Whenever she looked toward Jack, he gave her a look that melted her insides. She desperately wanted to kiss him.
The evening ended at the beach for fireworks. They shared a blanket, but Jack was nervous they would scare Emma. It was well past her bedtime. Jack sprawled on the blanket with Emma cuddling on his chest. Maddie's heart was exploding. She wanted to lie down next to him and put her head on his shoulder. She resisted every urge and instead enjoyed the brush of Jack's fingers against her ankle. He always inconspicuously touched her.
When the fireworks started, Emma sat up and stared wide eyed. She didn't mind the loud bangs. Maddie watched Emma more than the fireworks. The moment was perfect. Jack must have felt the same because he ever so briefly squeezed her hand.
