“HOW DO YOU DO THAT?” Elizabeth asked in wonder as she watched Annie walk through the sea of people pouring into the parking lot.

“Do what?” Andre replied absentmindedly, not taking his eyes off of Annie’s figure.

“She’s laughing. You make her laugh.”

“Wish you were as good as me, don’t you?” he snickered back. Vincent swooped in and pulled Elizabeth into his arms in a protective cage.

“Paws off buddy, she’s mine,” he joked, but not before shooting him a subtly threatening look.

“Yeesh,” Andre mutterd, raising his hands as if his friend were holding him at gunpoint. “You make it sound like I was up to something.”

Andre backed away in mock terror, maintaining eye contact with his dangerous animal of a friend while retreating to his car.

“You didn’t have to scare him like that,” Elizabeth sighed after Andre had driven away. She then pinched Vincent so hard that he had no choice but to let her go.

“Didn’t have to?” Vincent glared as he rubbed his reddening hand. Elizabeth found herself pinned against a wall. She quickly looked around for anyone sneaking peeks, but there was no one in sight.

“Do you even realize how insanely jealous I am right now?” Vincent breathed into her ear.

Elizabeth snorted and shoved him aside.

“Whoa there, pheromone freak,” she drawled, narrowing her eyes at him. “Do you even realize what kind of relationship Annie and I have right now?”

“I don’t care,” Vincent retorted. “Just how long are you going to make me wait?”

“Huh? What are you talking about?”

“You’re obviously in love with me,” he growled, pulling Elizabeth close and burying his face in the nape of her neck. “Why can’t you just see it already?”

            “Wha—”

Elizabeth shivered as she felt Vincent’s lips search along her jaw line for her mouth.

            Wham!

Vincent saw stars as he dropped to the ground, swearing under his breath. His head throbbed like mad, and when he opened his eyes, he saw Elizabeth hovering over him with her fist raised, ready to swing again if he tried any more of that funny business.

“Now look here, Vincent!” she stuttered, trying to look intimidating as her face turned bright red. “Just because we’re friends doesn’t mean that you can do whatever you want. Touch me again and I’ll seriously beat you to a pulp, you hear?!”

And with that, Star Lake’s famous nerd from hell escaped to the safety of the library, pretending not to see Vincent’s smug look as she scampered back through the front gates.

The next day, Elizabeth awoke to the song of angels.

She yanked open her window to find a choral group serenading her awake just below her room.

And, as usual, the morning ended with a furious “GOODBYE!” spat in the general direction of Rick’s battered carcass.
