Ally stopped off at the mall, she honestly hated coming here but Grandma needed her prescriptions. She looked around her just taking in the sights, all she saw was white, light gray, and blue. Everything was the same clean color. She hated it, she hated all of it.
Her grandmother often told her stories of what the world used to look like before White World was built. Everything had been green, colorful, and just beautiful. Ally wanted to experience it for herself but she knew she never could. Grandma often showed Ally pictures of her friends and her in a city called Indianapolis where they would go down to a canal and take pictures. Ally loved looking at them, all their smiling faces surrounded by the luscious green grass.
White World was a city constructed as a place for invention and technological learning. No one in White world cared about small inconveniences like grass. Most people wanted to buy the latest Spark 5600 or the new Sally 1900. Everyone wanted robots nothing was real anymore.
People used things called visors, little bands that wrapped around the back of your head that with just a thought would pull up a holographic screen that would connect you with friends and family. Visors also gave you access to searches, the latest gossip, or whatever you could think of. No one interacted personally, some families even used visors at dinner for conversation so that they wouldn't have to take the time to move their mouths and talk. Ally's grandmother always hated this and whenever Ally went over with her familys' visors came off.
Ally often enjoyed going to her grandmother's house. It was small and quaint. Grandma often did the best she could to add as much color to her house. She would put up old photos, painted her walls with splotches of color, and would take out old what-nots from her childhood that she had saved. One of Ally's favorite places in the house was the basement. It was full of treasures from years gone by. One treasure she found down there in a small box was a raggedy old black dog and a beat up old wolf plush. She took them upstairs to show grandma. Grandma laughed saying, "Those were toys I used to play with as a kid, and when I no longer played with them they always stayed in my bed." Ally loved hearing these kinds of things, and when she found something special to Grandma she would place them somewhere in the house so they would never again be forgotten.
The story was different when Grandma went over at Ally's though. Mother hated when Grandma talked about the past, mostly because Mother was one of the top inventors at her company and had helped create White World. The plus side to Mother being in inventor was that she created the Sparky series. They always had prototype dogs running around their house and it brought Ally a little happiness because dogs were one thing she loved most. Grandma hated the Sparky series but supported her daughter in buying one for herself which she came to love, even though she never admits it. One of Ally's favorite Sparkies is her own Sparky which she named Falken, after one of Grandma's old dogs from her past.
Ally's house was quite different from Grandmas in that everything was white, black, gray, or clear. There wasn't a lot of color except for in her room. Grandma had given Ally some of her paints that she was able to salvage, with those paints she painted so many pictures of the old world on her walls so that she could look at it every night and dream of it.
Grandma didn't much like Ally's house so they would often have to go to her. This was a plus for Ally because she was home schooled. With her mother being an inventor she didn't want her kids leaving the house so she taught them at home. Ally hated being home so she studied at Grandma's, which her mother reluctantly let her do. Everyday Ally would walk over to Grandma's which was just a few blocks away. Grandma would make her do her studies and during Ally's breaks Grandma would tell her stories or show her old picture. Ally loved this. Sometimes Ally's older brother, Dante, would come along but he didn't really care for Grandma's stories thinking they were childish fantasies.
Ally and Dante never really got along. Ally was more interested in the arts like drawing and writing, whereas Dante was into things like science. Dante wanted to be a scientist like his mother, and his dream was to help create the new Gray World.
Gray world was another city which was in the process of being created, it was supposed to be bigger and better with more opportunities than before. Dante wanted to help design some of the buildings which he had already submitted a ton of blueprints for. Dante had also been creating a lot of newer technology that he submitted to companies which he made money off of. With the money that he made he hoped to create his own company someday and make the latest and greatest technology.
Ally's family was quite the normal family except for her, because she was the odd one out. Ally had her mom Taylor, Dad Cornelian, older Brother Dante, older Sister Elizabeth, and Baby Damion. Each member of her family had a speciality. Dante, 18, was really good at architecture and building design. Elizabeth, 17, loved politics and wanted to become someone important someday. Mother, was an inventor in the biggest company in White World. Father, was a Professor who taught math at the most prestigious college. Every member of Ally's family was smart and everyone looked down on her for wanting to create silly things when she could be making the world a better place.
Ally wanted to make the world a better place, by introducing it to color and fun. She wanted to show the civilians of White world that trees were supposed to be green and brown not the unnatural white and blue that matched all the buildings. She wanted to show them what the world used to look like before all the gray, white, and blue. She wanted to show them that there is more color, more to see, more to learn. She wanted to bring color to a white world.
