Just Three Words

58 9 2

In the world of the geeks,
     Of the nerds and the fans,
Of the people who wish nothing more
     Than to live in another land;
There is something you can say
     To make us crazy on any day--
Just three words to grace any masterpiece!

These words shall bring us
     To the brick of despair;
These words shall leave us
     Crying out, "It's not fair!"
For our loyalty has left naught
     But with more questions;
With these three words,
     We know what our quest is.

Words of power, word of pain,
     Words from which we do not
   Know what we shall gain;
But this wound is a blessing
     Much like the tortured rain.

The words leave us hanging--
     Hanging by a thread,
But hanging, nonetheless,
     In this dream that's sure to end.
They stitch the worlds together
     And throw us a saving tether--
But three words to tie down our sanity.

With these words, our hope sparks anew;
     With these words,
We continue to push through
     The doubts and start to think again
Of what could happen
     And how it could end.

They remind us of the things
     That we can no longer see
When we are too distracted
     By what might come to be,
And they help us move on
     When we're ashamed of our actions--
Just three words to describe what life is.

But what are these words
     That hold so much power,
That makes the dreamer's heart
     Pound rather than flutter?
I would like to tell you
     All about my muse,
But I'm afraid that this poem
     Is to be continued...
