"Hello mother, father." It was the first thing Asami said as she entered the fancy restaurant. Everything was shimmering. The golden lights bounced off champagne glasses and the crystal chandelier in the middle glittered. She sat herself down on a chair that was around the table her parents were sitting on.
Mr and Mrs Himura were seemingly two, warm hearted people from first glance. They looked like any retired couple, enjoying their golden years. They did smile often, just like their daughter. On the inside, they were opportunists. They sought after money, just to add to their already growing collection of cash. However, they were loving parents. But Asami would've said they were a little controlling.
"Hello, sweetie," Mrs Himura replied, "How are you these day?"
She seemed interested in her daughter's life even from behind a menu. Asami, who was on the scouting committee before becoming an entertainer, could've sworn that her mother would've been an actor in another lifetime.
"I'm doing very well actually. I got a job as co-host in a show with Big Bang's Seungri. Big Bang is a South Korean band by the way."
"Ugh, I don't like it. Their entertainment industry is messing with teenage girls' minds. People not too different from yourself actually." Mr Himura, the well-known business man, spoke for the first time.
"Father, I'm 23 years old. Give me a break."
"We can still get you into Stanford University. I know someone there and your grades aren't too shabby." Mrs Himura encouraged her daughter.
"No, mother. My grades aren't 'shabby' because you made me study 24/7. Let me enjoy life. I'll find time to apply to a university here."
"But then you won't be a doctor. I can't have my daughter going to some low-class university. It's wrong." Mr Himura put his menu down and waved the waiter away.
"But celebrities do it all the time. There is nothing wrong with it and just so you know, I never wanted to be a doctor in the first place."
"I only wanted to make you happy. We paid so much to get you into the best company. It's my own fault."
"No it's not. Stop blaming yourself, Mom. I chose to do it. Can we enjoy a nice meal without pulling each other's hair? Please, tell me how Hong Kong was?"
Asami picked up the menu as her parents blabbered on about their last trip. Now that they were retired, they were living on the lap of luxury. One second they were in Tokyo and the next, they were in Europe. Just as their food arrived, Asami heard her ringtone. She took a peek at the phone and saw that it was Seunghyun who was calling her.
"Sorry, I have to take this." She took her belongings and rushed outside. She swiped the phone as she set herself down on the patio.
"Hello?" She began.
"Hi." He replied. There was a long silence. Asami started feeling uncomfortable. "So, are you doing anything this Saturday?"
"No I'm not. Why?"
"I was thinking, maybe we could go out for that drink and dinner." He suggested and she rolled her eyes.
"Now that I think about it, I do have a huge schedule on Saturday." She wanted to avoid him as much as possible. She knew that her parents would never approve of this. They were nitpicking the best suitors out there and none of them were the maknae from South Korean bands.
"Sunday then. And if not, Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday... not Thursday but Friday and the next Saturday and Sunday work for me." He sounded so energetic; Asami wondered if he was on drugs.
