Chapter 4--(Emma's P.O.V)
I stood outside the doors of a huge mansion near Gotham City. I pushed the door bell and waited patiently. I didn't half to wait long thankfully, because an old man with a bald head with black hair circling his ears. He was wearing a butler's attire.
"Ah, you must be Miss Potter. Come in." He answered, surprising me with his British accent. "I'm Alfred Pennyworth, but please call me Alfred. If you may."
"Thank-you. What part of England did you live in?" I asked walking inside. "You can call me Emma."
"London. How about you, Miss Emma?" Alfred asked smiling.
"Surrey." I answered.
"I don't think I've ever been to that part of England." He admitted. "So how are you like Gotham City so far?"
"It is alright, I guess. I haven't really had the chance to see the city yet." I answered truthfully. "Alfred, what's Mr. Wayne like?"
"Don't worry Emma. Master Bruce is a good, honest man. He's very kind. You're actually not the first child he's adopted." He said.
That got my attention. "Really, how many?"
"Four to be exacted, not counting Master Damien, who is his biological son."
"How old are they?" I ask.
"Terry is the first child he adopted, and he is about sixteen. Jason was the second to be adopted, and he is about thirteen. Tim is the fourth, and about twelve. The last to be adopted was Richard, who prefers to be called Dick. He is around a year older than you are. Damien is about fifteen." He named. "They are all different but Master Bruce loves them all as they were his own."
"But what if he doesn't like me Alfred? Or what if they don't like me? I don't want to come between anyone or cause any problems." I asked a little nervous.
"Emma, that isn't for me to decide. It took Damien, awhile to accept the others, but that's just how he is. Now, he is just as protective of his siblings as they are of him. You just need to give them time. They'll come around eventually." Alfred said giving me a reassuring smile. I nod my head as I follow him to a large living room. "Now, you wait here. Master Bruce will be with you shortly."
I sat down on one of the big couches. There was a plate of chocolate chip cookies on the coffee table, but I didn't dare take one. Maybe what Alfred said was true, but I wasn't taking any chances. I hoped he was nice. The League wouldn't put me with some one horrible, would they? I quickly dismissed the idea as not possible. They were the good guys, and I had to put my trust in their judgment.
I didn't have to wait long, when a tall man with jet black hair, pale skin, and light blue eyes walked into the room with a small boy about the same age as me, maybe older. The man had the same height and build as Batman. This had to Mr. Wayne. The boy had jet black hair, and pale skin too, but his eyes were a shade darker than Mr. Wayne's.
The boy practically ran over to me with a huge smile on his face.
"Hi! I'm Richard, but you can call me Dick. What's your name?" He asked energetically.
"I-I'm Emily, but I like to be called Emma." I said shyly. I could tell this boy and I would be good friends.
"Nice to meet you, Emma." Dick said before pointing at Mr. Wayne. "That's Bruce. Do you want a cookie?"
"Hello, Mr. Wayne." I said taking a cookie. "It's nice to meet you."
He smiled, "Likewise, but please call me Bruce. 'Mr.Wayne' makes me sound old."
"Okay." I said liking him more and more.
"Batman told me so much about you, Emma." He started. "I couldn't believe how remarkably strong you are to have survive such an ordeal."
"Is that why you wanted to adopt me? Because you feel sorry for me." I asked.
He held up his hands, "That's not why I'm adopting you. The reason why I want to make you apart of my family is that you've been through so much. Things that your relatives put you through are just despicable, and no child should have to go through what you went through. They will be brought to justice. I promise you that. I also want to you are give you the life that you should of had in the beginning."
"Really, Mr. Wa--I mean Bruce--are you sure you know what you're getting your self into? What ever powers that I have are the reason why my relatives didn't like me. I also can't control them really well. They mostly just react to certain situations, like when I'm scared or angry." I said.
"I know. Batman explain that to me before, but powers or no powers. I still want to make you apart of my family. If you'll let me." He said.
"Please say that you'll stay, Emma." Dick said. "I think your powers are awesome!"
Shocked, I asked, "Really? You think my powers are cool?"
"Yeah I do!" He said.
"Okay, but if only if the others are okay with it. I want all of you to agree." I said smiling. "Then, yes, I'll stay."
Bruce also smiled. "That's fine with me."
"Yes!" Dick cheered. He jumped up grabbing my hand, and pulled me to the door. "Come on Emma. Lets go see your new room!"
I laughed as I let him pull me down the hall. I couldn't help but hope that everything worked out in the end.
