"What do you mean 'she got a away'? How?!" Hays roars at the man in front of him. "How did two girls get away from an army?!"
"Alpha, they started a fight on the other side of the pack. We were distracted."
"Distracted? Not good enough, Ezra! Now, they have Hazel. You worked with her for a long time. You and I both know that she has the game plans and the ideas. They'll be back and when they do... you will kill her. We don't need her anymore. We have everything we need now, without her!" Ezra nods his head fearfully, keeping his eyes trained on the ground. He slowly turns around to leave. "Oh and Ezra, you and your team better keep her absence on the quiet."
Ezra nods, shutting the door behind him. The door clinks and he's breaths out a long breath. He then makes his way outside, where many pack members throw him side looks and glares. Ignoring them, he strides over to his cabin with a stern expression.
Ezra use to have a lot friends and a lot people respected him. Trusted him. Now, he's this monster that people want to chew up and spit out, then continuously trample on.
On the way to his cabin, he sees Darcy with two black circles around her eyes and a deep fresh wound across her cheek. He swallows and finds it hard to tear his eyes away from her.
"You!" Darcy sneers, marching her way over. Her hair flying back against the wind, anger clearly written across her wounded and pale face. She stops right up in his face and in a low voice she threatens, "I know she's gone. I know all I have to do is tell people here and all hell will break loose," she breaths in her nostrils flaring. "And you see this," she uses her index finger and circles her face. "Your men did this."
Ezra knew in his heart that his men did that, but hearing it from Darcy made it all that more real. He watches Darcy's back as she storms off to some pack members. With a stone cold expression, Ezra heads into his cabin, he shuts the door and looks around.
He walks over to his desk, then screams in frustration pushing everything on the desk onto the floor. He grabs his hair and takes in a shakey breath. He hears footsteps approaching him. "You did this. It's not working." The boots stop and he hears them lift something from the coffee table. Ezra turns around.
"This photo, you want this back?" She turns the picture towards him. In it is a small wooden picture frame. It's a picture of Quinton, Easton and himself from when they first started working together to run the pack. The proud smiles on their faces and the best friend arm over the shoulder, showed how close they were.
"Quinton is dead. I can't have that anymore. And it's all on you."
"Maybe, but you can have Easton and Hazel."
"Hazel?"
"Yeah, she needs a beta once she gets her pack back. Maybe, you could be it. With Darcy acting the way she is, she'll not last very long and Easton could be third in command."
"She'll never let me in her pack, not after this," He furrows his eyebrows.
"She will if you help her get her pack back."
"And how will I do that. I thought we had a plan."
"We did and like you said 'it's not working'."
