Brice's P.O.V

It's funny, how I didn't see any of this coming. Like, the Cuts, the fact that my slightly older sister knows Magic. Stuff like that. So, my sister gets Magic skills, and all I get are some lousy Art and Animation skills? Not to mention a Homophobic voice inside my head..?

Totally not fair, if you ask me...

Both Jess and I dove for cover-she holding her leather bound book tightly, me holding my sketchbook in the same fashion- as glass shattered. We ducked behind the doctor’s counter as flames-yes, flames, it surprised me, too...- shot from a foreseen angle. Everything that the-strangely purple-flames touched was not burnt, though a flower wilted as some of the odd flames got within 2 feet. I heard Jess swear under her breath about backfiring magic, and I rolled my eyes. I mean, it's MAGIC. It's gotta have its ups and downs, right?

Almost as soon as the flames had appeared, they vanished, as if they had never been there at all. The evidence of other magic was still there, though; the wilted flower, broken glass, exetera. I slowly raised my head from where I had been huddling. Jess was still sitting there, next to me, flipping through her book. It was in the same language that Seto's book was in.

Secrets, Secrets, Secrets. So many secrets...

So, as I looked up from my little makeshift refuge, I sighed. Seto was, indeed, awake.

But, he did NOT look happy.....

He looked around wildly, as if not really taking in where he was, or the damage. He didn't notice me, or Jess. He just brought his knees up to his chest, as if not accepting that he was in a hospital. There was a look in his eyes, like a Deer in headlights- like a caged animal.

Fear

Oh, come on! NOW you speak! Don't you have something else to do....?

Leaving the thought of incredibly annoying-and not at ALL paranoid- voices in my head to rest, I just sat there, unable to make any move to, well, help. No doctors rushed in to check on Seto, nor did any seem to be trying to pry open any doors. All was silent, except the electric buzz of the lights, the pitter-patter of rain on windows, and a distant crack of thunder. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the small boy seemed to come to his senses. He just, well, looked around. He didn't seem to be confused, as if waking up in a hospital, hooked up to a UAV was a completely normal thing to happen.

Heck, maybe it is. Maybe that alley scene happens more often than I actually know. It would explain why he keeps away from everyone else, anyways....

Jess, being completely oblivious-like always- stepped up from her hiding spot. She cleared her throat, waiting until Seto looked her way. The first thing that he noticed- I think- was her book, and his eyes narrowed. "Err, hello... Sorry for that abrupt wake-up..." Jess shrugged, and Seto sighed. He still seemed to be on edge, but not as much. "It was kind of, erm, not well planned, I guess. But, hey, you're not in a coma anymore, so that’s good...."

Seto looked around, at the UAV hooked up to his arm. "H...How long have I been out..?" He asked, with a sore voice. I guess that 2 months without speaking would do that to someone.

"Uh..... About 2 months..?" Jess replied, as if that wasn't a huge number or anything. Seto looked at her in slight shock. He brushed some of his brown hair out of his eyes, still starring at Jess with the same look of shock, and slight sadness.

"Two... Months... You’re kidding, right?" The pale boy pestered, and my sister shook her head. "Damn......" He whispered. There was a heavy silence after that, the rumble of thunder the only sounds. I rolled my eyes, not really sure if I should get up from where I was crouched, or wait for Seto to spot me, or any other thing that could happen.

Might as well see how this conversation goes.....

"So, S-" She was cut off by a few doctors rushing into the room, checking Seto, and such. They whispered to one another, like "How is he still alive?" and "I thought for sure he was a goner..." I could tell that Seto didn't like the attention, because he shrank away from the ever-growing crowd of nurses and doctors. Jess and I were shooed out of the room, and I accidentally left my Sketchbook on the table inside, next to the now-wilted flower. I swore under my breath as one of the nurses- a peppy girl names Isabelle- shooed us out of the room. None of the others noticed the mess, like, at all. They were all trying to find out why Seto wasn't dead, I guess.

Sighing, I leaned against the wall, Jess flipping through her book next to me. She brushed a blonde strand of hair out of her face, and she frowned as she read some of the text. "That's Odd....." she commented quietly, and I glanced over at her.

"What's 'Odd?'" I asked, and she shrugged.

"It's just that, well, that spell had a 1% chance of working... And that's if you plan it...." she trailed off, and I knew what she meant. Something was NOT right, in this picture....

No, Jess and I both knew that something was up. Something just didn't make sense....
