Chapter 17

I set out a blanket outside the hut. Lauren insisted on working the fire and I just took care of the picnic things we need for our picnic tonight.

After placing the basket down, I sit on the blanket and watched Lauren with curiosity. Her tongue is peaking out of her mouth and I stop my giggle before it could come out. Lauren is looking adorably cute and also hot as fuck when she is trying to light a fire. I sighed softly, resting my chin on my knees and don't mind to stop my giggle when I heard her groaning.

"Need some help?"

"Nah."

"Lauren... we are not survivors. Where is your lighter?"

She didn't reply to me for a few seconds later until I saw sparks of little flames starting to appear. Lauren's face was so happy when she sees the woods are burning up and I bit the inside of my cheek when she giggled gleefully as she look at me with her smiley eyes.

"Dork, c'm here," I said, laying down on the soft material.

Lauren crawled her way to me and set herself comfortably on the blanket. I slip my arm around her waist as she settled her head down on my lap with our legs tangled and our arms wrapping in silence, pleasant cuddle.

"Camz..."

"Yeah?"

"Tell me something. Like a... um, story or maybe sing me a song?"

My heart warms at the sound of her voice. I squeezed her in my arms and draw small circles on her back.

"I think I can."

"Okay," she happily said, removed herself from me and leaned her weight on both her hands while her elbows rest on the fabric beneath her. The green-eyed girl watch me with eagerness.

I breathed in the fresh humid air before exhaling out my thoughts out of the way.

Then I start.

"There was this thirteen-years-old girl. She was scared and confused," I smiled softly at the story. "She was in her room with her walkman in her hands, listening to old songs she adored so much, and she blocked out the negatives things that were happening outside. She ignored the world. She ignored the reality with tunes, and beats, and rhythms. This girl, she was not like any other kids. She learned so many things at a young age and she... she felt like she was not the same like any other children.

"She learned about being an independent girl, she learned the concept of the human body, she learned how to dance and learned how to play the instruments she were interested in. She learned different types of cultures and races and about racism, and sexism. All of those at that young age. This girl wasn't ordinary. A lot of people said that. She wasn't that confident about her own body, but she still managed to be brave about that situation to the outside world.

"However, one day, something bothered her. After hitting puberty at twelve, she started to think about relationships. She observed hetero relations and grasped about the LGBT+ community. She was confused. She thought about kissing someone that is smaller than her. She thought about holding hands which are soft and not rough and dirty. She dreamt about having her hand in long, wavy locks and her arms hugging a petite figure.

"This girl was scared. She was really scared. She saw how people reacted when they saw a boy kissing a boy and a girl kissing a girl, she knew. She observed. She didn't step in and stop because she was twelve and naive. She was scared.
