Chapter Five
Aaron
He looks terrible. His face is swollen and from what I can tell he's got bruises up and down his sides. As I lay him down on the couch he winces and whimpers in his sleep. I frown looking him over and slowly pulling off his shirt my eyes widening at what I see. He has glass both big and small embedded in his skin from his cheek to his thigh. Jesus what did he do?
"Ahh." He groans out in pain blinking his eyes before trying to roll over. I hold on to his arms to keep him from doing so which just made him thrash around more.
"No." He whimpers sounding so defeated breaking my heart.
"Leave him alone!" Winter screams before his eyes open and he jolts up biting his lip and sagging down in pain.
"Hey. You're okay." I say gently grabbing his hand and crouching down to his eye level.
"What happened?" I ask looking into his ice blue eyes that could stop traffic.
"I-um." He looks terrified so I don't push for me just smile softly.
"It's okay just tell me what your name is?" I ask. He hesitates before whispering so softly I barely hear him,
"Winter, "
"Okay Winter I'm going to help you okay but getting the glass out is going to hurt and I'm sorry." I say standing and grabbing my first aid kit and walking back to him. He just nods looking down tears swelling in the bottom of his eyes.
I grab the bottom of his shirt as gently as I can and grab the scissors, he looks like he might protest but then just looks away and sighs. I cut away the shirt and immediately get started on trying to remove all the glass. This is extremely hard considering all the small pieces embedded in his skin. But, two pairs of tweezers and over two hundred (or so I'm guessing) pieces of glass later is side is cleaned with hydrogen peroxide and bandaged. I tape gauze over the cut in his cheek brushing back his hair with a wet comb trying my best to get the blood out. I give him a pair of shorts and one of my smallest t-shirts, though I am pretty sure it will still be very big on him, and leave the room so he can change. God, what happened to him? Was he defending someone? He did say to leave someone alone... A loud crash interrupts my thoughts sending me sprinting back into the living room. Winter is trying to stand up, it looks like he tripped over one of the stools sitting by the kitchen island.
"Hey, it's okay I got you." I say helping him up gently and lifting him to sit on one of the other stools.
"I shouldn't have come here I'm sorry I can leave." He says quietly looking up but I immediately shake my head.
"No! It's fine! Look you don't know me and I don't know you but I do know that you need help. You don't have to tell me what happened just know you can stay here with me okay?" His eyes go wide but he just turns away and nods biting his lip and nodding.
"So can you tell me little about yourself?" I ask hoping to gain some insight on exactly who he is.
"What do you want to know?" He asks looking up for a second only to duck his head once again.
"Well," I saw awkwardly rubbing the back of my neck. "How old are you?" If he's a minor I could get in serious trouble letting him stay here.
"Eighteen." He says quietly and I have to stop myself from sighing in relief.
"What's your last name?" I ask. He should have been in my class at high school but I don't recognize him at all.
"Adams." He says rubbing his wrist.
